I had a RAID array that failed to mount. After a bit of research, I decided to ship my drive to datarecovery.com. They have a local office here in MN, but the lab is being updated, so in the interim they were offering free shipping to their IL lab. Throughout the process, they kept in touch in a timely and helpful way. There was no upselling or other sales pressure, and they were very sympathetic to boot. Unfortunately, my drive was a physical drive head failure, and would have been multiple thousands to fix. Since it wasn't mission critical data, I declined the recovery.

But this estimate and information was provided free of charge. And the drive was shipped back, also free of charge. So the entire process cost me not a dime. Service like this is unheard of these days; for comparison, the last time I had a drive fail, it cost me $80 to find out that it was a hardware issue and would cost close to $1000 to get anything back. And this was from a reputable local shop.

I can't speak to their actual recovery, but their customer service and way of doing business is absolutely A+, and I would not hesitate to recommend them for any critical data recovery from a damaged drive.

I fried the circuit board on my hard drive while hooking it up to a USB adapter. It was out of my work computer and had numerous CAD drawings, accounting files, quotes and archived files. My backups were 1 month old. I lost a whole month? Then it really hit me: I LOST a whole MONTH?!? ESS Data Recovery was recommended by Western Digital for hard drive recovery. SaveMyFiles Pro 2011 recovers data from your bad hard drive. A friend recommended the software because I couldn’t access some important personal spreadsheets and other information on my computer. I am not very software savvy. I might have been able to figure out SaveMyFiles software on my own, but I was in a hurry so I called the support line which is available Monday - Friday, 7AM to 4PM Central (they also have help via email). With the help line’s guidance I was able to retrieve my files in minutes. I was very impressed with the help line person, he was very patience and knowledgeable.

Just when I thought I had lost 6yrs worth of photos, documents & most important all of my research notes & work.... Data Recovery saved the day.... wait no.... They Saved my life. The ease of speaking to the Customer Service department was so great! I was able to tell them what had happened just before my computer crashed & I never once ever felt as I was being talked down to or talked at. I was treated with respect and dignity, for a minute I really thought I knew what I was talking about! I only wish I had found out about Data Recovery when I had my last computer... perhaps they would have been able to save it when the motherboard died. Wait... lucky for me I saved the computer, I can't wait for them to give this a whirl. I just might be able to get all my previous years information, photos & letters from my granny. My hard drive crashed and I sent it to ESS data recovery to get my data back. I received my drive back, all the data appears good. They did a terrific service. What I think what I liked about them the most is that they track every move and I can log onto the website and see where I'm at in the recovery process. If I have a problem again I will definitely use ESS Data Recovery's services again.. But.... Let's hope I never have to. ;)
