May Be Old Now But It Still Prints
this printer is now very old compared to the new ones but it works with windows 7 ad thats good because as long as this printer works im happy.
the ink may cost a bit but i must say it does last alot longer than other cartridges for sale these days. i print alot some times and the ink does last me about 1 year.
the printer is slow now (well it was made in 2004) but that doesn't mean its a bad printer.
the picture quality is very good even if you use cheap ink the printer still surprises.
hp are better than most printers as when the ink clogs(which has only happened once ever) the printer can try to clean it but when it cant you dont need a new printer just a new cartridge due to the ink nozzils being on the cartridge its self now built in the printer like Epson still do which has been a fail since they started.
if you can find this printer on ebay or used or new on amazon (yes there are still some of these printers brand new never been used!) than i recommend you buy it. it wont let you down. That's why these printer are named work horses...because they never seem to want to die. i bet the printer will out last my computer (which i only just custom built it)
because its so well made and they did use high quality plastic.

I Have Run My 940c For Over 12 Years Without Any P
I have run my 940C for over 12 years without any problems. It has always proven to be reliable and economical on ink. I just wish my wife hadn't wrecked it clearing a paper jam. I had been printing on A5 paper which was still loaded and she tried to print A4 size and the paper picked up on the edge of the ink cartridge. She broke all the paper guides because she didn't want to tell me she had jammed it. Where can I get another one.
I have recently been given the hp deskjet 940c printer off a friend for free. I'm thinking to sell it on ebay.. what would be your best price for the printer?

Reliable For Many Years Now. I Have Had It For Ove
reliable for many years now. I have had it for over 10 years and it has never given any problems. It is economical on ink and cheap cartridges are readily available. My local ink supplier bought one second hand for his daughter when she went to college because he knew it would save him money on running costs.
I dread the day I have to replace this old friend. A bit on the noisy side while printing. Mine is on a wall bracket and you can hear ir printing in the next room.

The HP Deskjet 940c is an efficient little thing, replaced it only because it is now about 6 years old. Make sure you install the printer software first before you connect the printer to the computer!

I've had my printer for over 4 years, have printed 1,000s of documents, excellent dependability, quality printing and very reasonably priced when new. Well recommend HP Deskjet 940c.

Like Many Hp Deskjet Printers Before It (eg. Deskj
Like many HP Deskjet printers before it (eg. Deskjet 850C, 930C) and others following it (eg. Deskjet 3820) the Deskjet 940C uses HP's tried and tested technology to produce good quality prints economically.
The front paper-load-and-eject design makes efficient use of the printer's reasonably small desk-top 'footprint'.
The original HP ink cartridges are the C6578A tri-colour (38ml) and the C6615D black (25ml). The HP black ink cartridge is small by HP's usual standards for a machine that is rated for 2,000 pages per month. This is the only area where the DeskJet 940C really differs from the 850C and the 930C.
However, compatible replacement ink cartridges are available (eg. from Inkcycle) that will provide 45ml tricolour, and 42ml black cartridges (like the 850C and 930C), which are more economical to use. Print quality, even with compatible cartridges, is good.
The printer can produce around 12 pages per minute (ppm) at 300 dpi (draft), or around 7 ppm at 600 dpi (normal). Good quality images of 2400x1200 dpi are possible, but are slow to print.
For the average home user or small business, this printer will be capable of most tasks expected of it, working efficiently, and at reasonable cost when using compatible ink cartridges of around 40ml capacity.
The printer is reasonably quiet in operation, and it can be trusted to cope with a sizeable print queue.
By default, HP's software installs the HP 'Task agent' into the PC's system tray, which makes it easy to monitor printer performance or adjust printer settings.
The printer controls and indicator lights are mounted on the front of the printer body, and with the front paper load, this makes it easy to monitor printer operation.
An abused DeskJet 940C printer might develop a fault in the paper pick-up, feed and eject mechanism, which results in the printer omitting to print within the last 25mm (1") of an A4 or letter size page. This is not a huge problem if you are content to adjust the bottom page margin to 26mm.
For this reason, anyone looking to purchase a second-user DeskJet 940C is advised to check out the print margins before purchase.
To do this, create an A4 or letter size document in a word processing program (eg. MS Word, Corel WordPerfect, or Star Write). In page setup adjust the print margins (page borders) to 1.5mm (1/16") all round. The word-processing program will advise that the print margins are set outside the printer's capabilities, then automatically adjust margins to 1.8mm top, 3.4mm left and right, and 11.7mm bottom (or 0.18, 0.34, and 1.17cm, respectively).
Type a string of letters on the top two lines of the document. Work down to the foot of the document by hitting the 'Enter' (or 'Return') key. Type a string of letters in the bottom two lines of the page. Adjust the second top and second bottom lines of text to right-justified text (aligned with the right hand side of the sheet). Print out the page as a test page, then measure top, bottom, left and right print margins on the sheet. Compare these with the default margins given in the paragraph above. If any text is missing from the bottom of the page, the printer may be faulty. HP will only offer to supply a service-exchange (refurbished) printer as a replacement at a cost of more than £100 (around $170).
To avoid damaging the DeskJet printer, or any printer for that matter, do not force the feed-rollers round by hand.
The DeskJet 940C, like all HP products, is supported by HP from their website. Print software, user manuals, FAQ's and advice are readily available to support the DeskJet user and help get the most out of the printer.
I found this review very helpful because... I learned about the margins required to set up for word documents / how economical on ink/ how compatible with compatible inks / how good with black n white photo- I have acquired a second hand 940 c and am encouraged by review to keep this printer which gives better colour than my cannon mp700 all in one which Ive had to discard after 3 years [ waste ink taNK FULL] AND TOO COSTLY TO TO REPAIR- but 940 does not seem to take thicker paper?? for cards??I have just printed my first cards using seif publishing program and colour is better than cannon on thin card--- cannon adjusts for thickness of paper- cant find that facility on HP

Very reliable printer for the two years I have owned it from new. Nothing broke and prints were good all the time, even the red ones when the ink started to run short!
