Battery Life

I Now Use The Archos Jukebox Studio 20gb Portable

I now use the Archos Jukebox Studio 20GB portable mp3 player as a storage hard drive only. The major problem that I had with this unit is the very short battery life. I've recharged it so much that I recently had to take it apart and replace the AA batteries...yes it's just regular rechargable AA batteries inside.

There are too many other players out there right now to even bother with this. Only buy if you just want to mess with it as a hard drive and then only if you can get it on ebay for cheep.

I Just Post My Recent Email To Archos. You'll Get

I JUST POST MY RECENT EMAIL TO ARCHOS. YOU'LL GET IT. IF YOU STILL PLAN TO BUY AN ARCHOS AFTER READING THIS THEN HAVE YOUR HEAD EXAMINED OR AT LEAST TAKE AN IQ TEST SEE IF YOU'LL GET ANYTHING OVER 55!

I'm just really sorry that I bought this Archos Jukebox Studio 20GB Portable MP3 Player and I tell everyone who needs a jukebox not to purchase one. I try my best to post my opinion everywhere from now on to make sure everyone stays away.

My battery died after 3 months. Since then holds charge for about 30 minutes LCD off but that's not the only thing that I hate about Archos. It's simply not affordable to pay $39 for a cable, not wise to pay $29 for cigarette charger and stupid to pay a lot more for a poor quality car kit from your website. 12 dollars ground shipping is simply the sutpidest thing about buying a USB 2.0 cable from you guys.

Archos offers nothing standard... It's difficult to find a wall or cigarette charger with 5v output since I ain't paying you jack. I had to go to INDIA and CHINA TOWN to find what I'm looking for but I ended up with different amperage. I told myself if it blows the hell out of the player then that's fine. I can't dump it in the garbage can before I make sure nothing on this piece of junk works.

I'd never buy anything from the other side of the border again... 500 dollars teaches almost everyone a lot of things. Tought me a lot.

Angry disappointed US customer.

This Archos Jukebox Studio 20gb Portable Mp3 Playe

This Archos Jukebox Studio 20GB Portable MP3 Player is the biggest piece of JUNK I have ever bought! It was such a great idea, I searched everywhere for something like this, then I got it. First, the movie coverting software was SO HORRIBLE, I spent a week learning, reading, hunting for drivers and software just so I could transfer a movie to this. After purchasing an additional $50 of 3rd party software and downloading the 2 other programs that are completely essential for this to happen it only worked for a week! Then it wouldn't hold a charge. I sent it back they replaced my NEW ONE for a refurbished one after about 2 months. OK, I used that about a month, about 6 times that month. I was so careful! I held it still, I didn't walk or bump it. Then the screen goes white. Great. I called and send it in 3 months later I get another REFURB! Well, 3rd times the charm - better be it's now out of warranty. Got to use it for about 5 times then TADA! White screen and it keeps shutting off, ALL THE TIME! I can get it to turn on then it goes right off. Sometimes I can get it to work for about an hour then it's done for another few days. Copying files to it... Not a chance, on it's "Not gonna work" days, can't even get it on long enough for the computer to see it. And other times, the battery goes dead in like 5 minutes. So I have to plug it in to use it. Called, emailed, got nothing then suddenly an email, UPDATE THE FIRMWARE, they say, fixes everything, RIGHT. Updated to fix all problems. Well now the battery meter is totally worthless. It jumps all over the place from almost dead to fully charged. It actually believes it too, when the battery meter jumps all over, it goes from low to full to low to full to low then it thinks the battery is dead and shuts off, even though it's got a full charge!

WOW - DON'T EVER BUY FROM ARCHOS EVER - PLEASE don't make the same mistakes We all did. How many people have to suffer! Buy the RCA LAYRA, Bigger screen, better features, cooler look, SAME DAMN PRICE! I wish I could get my money back, I can't afford another $400+ machine. I am so sad. :(

Sorry for the long venting. But, well this is the only place where people will actually care, because you are looking for real product reviews, my friends are getting sick of hearing about it.

Peace

I Have Also Experienced A Lot Of Problems With My

I have also experienced a lot of problems with my Archos Jukebox Studio 20GB mp3 player. HD works ok but twice the player has simply stopped charging. The secong time it happened Archos took ages to send a replacement so i ended up having to get a refund. A friend has also had similar problems. When it works its a great product but i couldnt recommend spending such a lot of money on something which is seemingly very unreliable.

After Almost A Year Hd Has Crashed Twice (beware M

After almost a year HD has crashed twice (beware manual and Archos web site offer different versions of device connection to PC) and second time is completetly inoperable.

Device has been flaky from new and Archos is unresponsive and ignorant of any behaviour resembling customer service.

In my opinion this device is best avoided.

Whack in some 2100mAH batteries in, put rockbox firware in and it's a very good player. I've had it for over 2 & 1/2 years and it's never once let me down. It's been dropped countless times, used constantly and it's the most reliable music player I've ever had. Rockbox software totally improves interfacing reliability with the pc. It's ugly, yes - but at the time I bought it the iPod wasn't even out. 10GB of music for £185 at the time was a steal. Plus the fact it uses AA batteries mean if you carry a spare pair of rechargeables you have limitless battery life (which is quite good anyway). When I eventually get round to a nicer looking player with a bigger drive I'll be using the hard drive in it for my laptop :-)

I Agree my jukebox hard drive has just failed for the 4th time, this time out of warranty. When it works it is brilliant, but it is not reliable.

I had a similar experience with this product. Some strange crashes and behaviour from new, but something that could be overlooked, however it unfortunately got worse until the unit was totally inoperable. Archos support was non existent.

Nice if you get it to work.

I find it Very reliable and blitzes anything else for the price. Change firmware to Rockbox and you have a unit rival the i Pod at much less money!!
