The Young Victoria is a beautifully shot film that focuses on the early life of Queen Victoria and portrays her transformation from a sheltered and imprisoned princess, who is controlled by her Mother's advisor, into a young woman discovering love who has to juggle her feelings alongside becoming the ruler of an entire kingdom.
Emily Blunt is a sympathetic Victoria and breathes life into a monarch who is so often remembered as a sober and serious widow. Rupert Friend, as Prince Albert, gives a truthful portrayal of Victoria's love without being two dimensional.
Similar in narrative construction as the powerful Elizabeth, The Young Victoria is well worth a watch if not for the lovely story but also for the stunning photography and settings. Watch out for a certain Princess Eugenie as one of Victoria's ladies in waiting during the coronation scene.
