Unbeatable Value
My second Volvo. The previous one was a S40 2.0D. It was six old when somebody skipping a stop street hit me on the driver's door. I survived without a scratch. In many other cars I would have sustained pelvic fractures and a femur fracture. The power of the impact shattered a laptop screen ( properly secured in a carry bag, caused milk cartons to bust open and dislodged the the front Tyre on the passenger side from the rim. Volvo's claims to safety is no hollow sales talk.
The S60 series combines safety, exceptional value for money , more than adequate performance and road holding combined with unbeatable safety.

2011 Volvo S60 D5, One Of The Best You Will Ever Find
This is my 5th Volvo
I once drove a S40 D5 and was very happy with the power, but what bothered me a bit was the turbo lack. With the new S60 D5, this is something of the past. With twin turbo, there is no lack anymore, and the power is real, and it accelerates so easily, with no effort. I drove the S60 T3 for 2 years, and although I can say nothing wrong about it, the D5 is way better in the sense of power, when you pull away from stand still, and the nice sound when you put it in sports mode gives you that feeling that you can take on anything. There is very few cars that will give you this power (158Kw, 480 torque)and fuel consumption of over 14km/l. The comfort and safety is the best there is. So for me, I want my family in the saves car I can afford. Parts are no more expensive than BMW and Mercedes benz. In all my 8 years driving Volvo's I never broke down. In South Africa a Volvo is the best value for money when you buy it, 1 or 2 years old. PS did you know, with the new XC60 you can keep your foot on the pedal, and on 110km/h pull the steering to the right or left, without taking your foot of the pedal, and the Volvo will stabilize itself. You cannot role this thing on tar!! This was very impressive when I experienced this at Swartkops race track a few weeks ago.
If you want to be more happy in life, buy a Volvo.

High Luxury Low Price
Onto my second car after I broke my heart when my first manual 04 drowned in a flood. Now have an 07 gear-tronic. One time I drove my last car for 12 hours from the South of France while towing a caravan. I was still comfortable when I arrived at the next site.Any journey seams that much quicker due to the pleasure of driving this car. Even the Honda salesman said when I was test driving a diesel Accord to go for the Volvo S60, and forget the VW Passat which I was looking at too!
I service mine at a local Volvo independent garage who give a fair price and are reliable. One other thing it has the best audio system ive ever heard in a car. Between getting this latest car I was considering a 4x4 Sante Fe but was torn back to the S60, cannot recomend enough!

Like A Well Worn Slipper
We've just moved onto our second S60, the first a D5 SE (163bhp) was purchased at 60k and ran till 152k and its eventual sale. NOTHING in 10 years has broken on the vehicle. The clutch was replaced at 140k as expected, just recently there was signs of wear in the turbo, so without hesitation we sought and found another identical model with the upgrade package. This time the (185bhp) engine is ever so slightly less economical, but certainly has much more torque. The power seat with memory is a boon for two diversely different drivers, each key fob easily programmed to move the seat and door mirrors when unlocked with the appropriate fob. The seating, ah the seating like a well worn slipper - total comfort no matter what the distance. Say what you will, this is not a car that needs to be thrashed within an inch of its life, although some police forces do with utter reliability. Its a car which will cover large distances with ease and comfort to the driver with a high degree of specification sufficient to make those distances shorter. It will still travel at highly illegal speeds and I have never ever found the limits of its handling despite spirited driving on more than one occasion . We have always purchased our cars and had them serviced at South Wales's Independent Volvo car specialist www.BVSwales.co.uk who care about Volvos better than most dealers we have ventured across in our opinion, and have Volvo's VIDAS backup software to assist in all their work. They are all fully trained and have looked after our vehicles expertly in our opinion. Some say the costs of a Volvo are exorbitant. My neighbours Audi cost on average 50-100% more each time he has service work compared to us... Front tyre wear is average for a vehicle of this size at 11-14k. I dont hestitate to encourage individuals to change and most have all had a good experience. Having been with the mark for 38 years, it still stands for something, although a few of the Ford based models do beg a few questions in certain areas.

Motoring's Best Kept Secret!
I've driven two BMW 3-series for the past six years and, ignoring the hype, they really are superb cars. But the BMW has one big flaw - the wide transmission tunnel means you sit slightly angled to the right, which I believe was the main cause of my bad back. I mention this because it's important if you're thinking of buying one.
So I wanted a comfortable car more than anything and while not over-enamoured by the styling of the Volvo the consistant word that came up in the reviews absolutely everywhere for the S60 was "comfort". So I had a breif test drive, felt instantly comfortable, and bought it. 9 months on and it is easily the best car I have ever driven in 30 years of motoring. Don't be fooled by reviews about handling; yes the steering is a little numb but you get used to the feel of it as with any car but unless you're intending to hammer it around a track it not even relevant.
Servicing is a little pricey but no more so than most marques in this price group and the fact that the general motoring press tout BMW, Audi etc, simply means that you can pick up a decent used Volvo for an awful lot less than a similar German car, so any incidental expenses become irrelevant anyway. It's comfortable for mile after mile after mile, quick, has a very good spec level, excellent fuel economy and generally just a fantastic all round car. Despite my reservations over the styling let's be honest, nobody cares what car you drive anyway, the interior is first class and the fact that not everyone and his dog has one gives it an air of exclusivity. What's not to like?
My next car will be the new 2010-on S60 when I can afford to "upgrade", with the bonus that the new model is a great looker too if that floats your boat. If you're considering a car in this class you must consider the Volvo, if not you are definately missing a trick. I cannot rate this car highly enough.

I am a high milage driver (45K per year) and I bought this S60 D5 Sport with 55K on the clock. Now it is just over 141K miles and not a single issue. It get's plenty of fast motorway use mostly and really is a hard car to beat as an all rounder. The 163BHP D5 engine is bullet proof, a little gruff at some rev ranges but totally do-able and very quiet at cruising speeds. Extremely comfortable, not much room in the back seats or boot but OK. Great seats, great stereo and decent handling for a heavy car (Not a 3/5 series, but not the price either). I highly recomend the S 60.. The new one should be even better with more power and lower CO2.

I have had a Volvo S60 for 7 years, its stunning and the fuel is shocking 46 mpg. The only thing i would wath out for is lots of blacke smoke from the rear thats a new rad and intercooler they are not cheap around 650 for the lot and fitting. Tyres are sound but wath the turning as on 17/18 rims can cause rubbing on the wheel arch then new tyres.
