Snooper S5-R

I can't believe some of the comments on here about people having trouble with their Snooper S5-R.I have had this unit for a while now and have found it to be fantastic. I usually do 2,000 miles a week and it manages to pick up cameras at a very good distance giving you plenty of time to take action, the display is clear as it can be even with the sun shining on it and the audible alerts are loud enough to be heard through your favourite songs being blasted out over the stereo.All in all a great little unit giving you all the features you could want out of a unit this size.

I wish there weren't so many theives, and we could install devices such as the Snooper S5-R on a permanent basis - this system is really great.

But it's hard to place on and in modern car and dash and all those cables are a nightmare. I have had the RLD stolen from it's location under the car number plate.

Digital display cannot be read at all if the sun is shining!! Audible alert is so quiet it cannot be heard above the engine...false alerts abundant, if you can manage to hear or see them.. I bought this Snooper S5-R from Currys online - returned it for refund the same day I received it. Never had a detector before, and if they are all like this one, I won't be replacing it either.

I used to have a Snooper 715is which gave too many false alerts as it was sensitive to automatic sliding doors etc. The Snooper S5-R is supposed to be better as it has "Digital Logic" but all this does is make it a single band (K) detector for UK use. It doesn't detect GATSOs until you are level with them. In UK mode it won't detect mini GATSOs. My old 715is did this and a friend has an S1 which is just as good. This is an expensive toy - save your money and buy a 715is or S1.This one does have text info but this is not worth paying extra for. It also has 360 degree laser detection.In three years of owning radar detectors I have only ever had one laser alert - but of course by then the police have their reading! I have also found out that these may soon be made illegal in the UK (according to the Times).
