Ford Galaxy 1.9tdi 2001 Mk2 115bhp

Bought this on a whim, as it already had the 18" wheels and rubber band tyres on it. I had a mudplugging Land Rover Discovery which killed yet another gearbox, so was fed up with sitting on cold concrete fixing the poxy thing. So I bought something more 'sensible'.

The Galaxy had 125,000 miles with the standard bits done (timing belt, clutch, lower wishbones, bearings and windscreen wiper motor assembly). Economy is incredible for nearly a 2 ton car, If I keep it as 60mph, it returns between 52-58mpg! even at 70ish it still does 50mpg. Throw the seats out of the middle and the back and I then have a decent sized van that I can use in the city without the costs of the Low Emmission Zone.

when I got it, the glove box needed putting back together, the drivers door lock didn't work from the outside, the remote locking didn't work and there was a dent in the boot. All I did was went to VW (not Ford!) and got the 'paddle' for door handle for £3 and fixed that. There's a torx head screw in the end of the door that lets you take the whole handle out, so no need to remove door cards. I Put new batteries in the remote and re-synced the remote locking, put on another tailgate of identical colour(£50) and finally put the glove box back in.

So I now have a tidy motor which is a van in the week and can take me, the wife, her mum and dad, our 2 kids, the dog and a 2 ton braked trailer, all out on the weekend.

All for £1150! :D

I Bought My Ford Galaxy In December, Nothing But P

I bought my ford galaxy in December, nothing but problems with it, it kept going into limp home mode, when took to the garage one said blocked cat or head gasket, then another said water pump, turbo sticking and then could possibly lead to head gasket. expensive to repair...

i loved it as plenty of space and nice to drive when working, and really good on diesel, but i wouldnt say it was a reliable car, and really in 2 minds whether to get rid, i love everything about the looks of it, size etc but not sure at all on reliability. also ive noticed that they arent very well made, flimsy materials easy to break etc...

Mass Air Flow Sensor will cause all these problems, and are well known for it. You may also have a leaking vacuum pipe.

Bought Car From Ford Main Dealer In Newport Wales

Bought car from Ford main dealer in Newport Wales second hand with full service history. Interior slight scratches but ok. Paid market price for what we thought was a good 4 year old car ( in 2008). First MOT cost £800, rear brakes needed full replacement and list of other faults. Second MOT front brakes, driver door lock (just needed strip down and clean)and rear exhaust but took it to ATS Euromaster who did a very good job. Ford wanted £700 but cost £300 at ATS. Ford hourly labour rate is £70 or higher. Recent MOT Jan 2011 Ford rang 2 days before MOT and service date to say cam belt needed to be done at 60k as as we had extended warranty with dealer we had to have it done £412 (£298 labour £114 parts). Now have drive shaft "play" / worn on 62500 miles ££££ Dealer has made silly mistakes like over filling oil, forgetting to reset service clock, metal tyre values leaked 20 psi per day and I diagnosed fault hearing the leak, 1 set of front tyres in 12 months!

Warranty company classes drive shaft failure as "wear and tear".

AVOID THIS CAR AND THIS DEALER AS THEY JUST DONT CARE

Going to complain and possible legal action as drive shaft failure seems to be known fault at 60k. If the car was 3 year old Ford would repair under warranty?

Air con fault (Ford wanted £1000) was due to air con radiator failing, known fault as water gathers in top crimped flange in top of radiator and corrosion eats into radiator releasing gas. Local aircon mobile engineer (AUTOCOOL) fitted radiator without removing front of car saving loads of £. Cost around £400.

Although I Love The Interior Space, My Galaxy Is H

Although I love the interior space, my Galaxy is having problems with going into limp-home mode. It started when the car was about 9 months old and after lots of visits to the garage, they changed the turbo and all was fine till a few days ago when the dreaded engine failure message has started to appear again. The car has only done about 8,000 miles, most of it start-stop city driving.

Good Points - Loads Of Room Inside The Galaxy For

Good points - loads of room inside the galaxy for all passengers and driver. The seats can be taken out thus leaving a van like space. Nice and comfortable to drive.

Bad points - The interior of the galaxy is very flimsy and the speaking grilles have broken. Lets in water resulting in the driver's side footwell flooded with water. Windows then get steamed up and vision is very poor. Dangerous situation!

A Good Sized Family Car Let Down By Woeful Reliabi

A good sized family car let down by woeful reliability and build quality. A true seven seater that can accomodate three child seats across the second row. Curtain air bags lend a sense of safety.

Fuel efficiency is its one cost saving feature. Engine performs well (when it works).

Our Ford Galaxy was bought with reasonably high mileage (80k in four years) but with a full service history. In the 11 months I have owned this vehicle:

The air con has had a faulty sensor and compressor ( very expensive).

The clutch master cylinder failed

The clutch slave cylinder failed

I also replaced the clutch (as recommended by the garage)

The parking sensors occasionaly stay on even when no obstacles are nearby

The car now shakes violently if I try to go above 45 mph (which sounds like it could be the dual mass flywheel).

Various bits of trim have to be pushed back into place, and interior has a very flimsy feel to it (plastic speaker grilles crack very easily - have had to re-attach window handles twice). I am somewhat concerned that in 2004 two of the world's biggest car manufacturers cannot make a car in which the window handles don't fall off. This is not exactly hi-tech stuff.

The car is also very expensive to run. Four new tryes will set you back £600

I Love My Galaxy 1.9 Zetec I've Had It 6 Years Wit

I love my galaxy 1.9 zetec I've had it 6 years with no major problems. It doubles up as a van and I'm in great demand for moving things.

I've had one on-going problem that no one seems to be ablet to sort. The oil light stays on. Ive sort of learnt to live with it but I would love to know what it is and sort it.
