Decent Set Of Wheels Overall.
Bought my 2006 V50 2.0D in March 2007 with 12000 miles on the clock. I just went past the 100,000 mark yesterday and it's been mostly a troublefree journey.
The alternator went at around 80,000 miles.
I've also experienced the Brake Failure message which turned out to be an ECU problem. The Door Control Module broke at 95000 miles and was a pain in the arse to fix. EGR valve needed replacement at 55,000 miles. Still running on the original clutch, dual mass flywheel and all other parts.
Car is very comfortable although a bit on the firm side.
Interior quality is excellent.

Volvo Arnold Clark Inverness
Word of advice everyone!! Do not go near Volvo in Inverness. Three words to describe them. Rude unhelpful and useless. I have a 2012 Volvo and get all my servicing done at strathmore Volvo in Perth. Strathmore are brilliant. Never give you problems and always look after your car properly. Will be buying my next car in Perth. Arnold Clark Volvo in Inverness are very disrespectful towards there customers.

Unreliable "ford" V50 D Se
We decided on a Volvo based on the idea that it was a reliable Swedish car with all the safety features for carrying our baby grand children in.We have been using our Morris Minor which as it happens is 100% reliable unlike this heap. It`s a V50 D SE with 81000 miles on the clock. Before we got it, it had a new Dual mass flywheel, clutch and battery. There was also a report of "Brake failure, stop vehicle safely" which prevents the vehicle going/starting. This was supposed to have been sorted by main dealer BUT its doing it again with other odd things happening, such as going into "limp mode" no response from "throttle" door locks not operating properly, wipers coming on randomly etc. We are fearful of relying on going in it now.Its been with an independant Volvo garage for 2 1/2 weeks but nothing found. I should have bought a BMW or Mercedes c class.
Nice Family Car
I brought v50 2.0d in dec 2009 i have found it good to drive fast on the pick up but also quite economical the leather interior is good quality and we had the booster seats built into the seat so no messing with booster seats spacious in the front and good legroom in the rear i would say the dash is quite plain and the handbrake has a funny position plenty of cup holders and good boot space. overall i am pleased with the car

Volvo V50 Or Should I Say Ford V50
I purchased my V50 a year ago. Since my purchase I have spent thousands and thousands on the car and am still not convinced it is right. Recently replaced the gearbox, clutch, flywheel and drive shafts and bearings, I haven't repaired the pieces falling off, the broken rear window, the broken digital display etc. Volvo customer service is just awful. The car has a pretty much comprehensive Volvo service history and is well looked after but this means little to Volvo. They insinuate that the problems are down to the driver. I had a V40 for 9 years and spent virtually nothing. Volvo quoted almost €6,000.00 for replacing the gearbox (with a recon), the clutch, flywheel and for fixing the rear window. Needless to say I went elsewhere though now I suspect there is something else wrong with it as it won't go into gear. Needless to say I will never buy another Volvo and I hope Volvo get their just deserves in their sales.

Worst Vehicle I Have Had Since 1963 850cc Mini
Bought this Volvo V50 2.0D SE second hand. Had been maintained by Johnson's Gloucester from new. Almost immediately started jumping into 'limp home' mode if you tried hard acceleration and could have killed us when it happened overtaking an artic uphill a bit before the end of a crawler lane had anything come the other way. Now I know why Volvos have to be built to stand crashes! There were no meaningful fault codes and no warning message on the dash. Cost £300 to get new DPF sensor and two stainless steel feed pipes fitted to correct(?) the fault. Now I don't trust the car not to do it again when I accelerate hard. This fault is well reported in the Volvo forums, but Volvo acted as if they had never heard of it - in spite of the fact that it was a Volvo mechanic who told my local man how to fix it! Now the alternator charging light has come on a couple of times but now everything seems fine again. Seems it may be the alternator - but I have to wait for the fault to go hard. Volvo want £500 plus to change an alternator - that really is outrageous. The car is longer, higher, wider, has less ground clearance, than my aged estate, but it has smaller doors, less leg room, a smaller boot, smaller fuel tank, smaller window wash reservoir, less confortable seats, a harsher ride, has appalling levels of road noise, appalling visabilty, and inferior mpg. The Volvo positevely lumber along even unloaded, wheras my old estate still glides along. Add to that, glow plugs which need the engine moved to change them, an oil filter which can't be accessed without removing the fuel filter etc.etc I just wonder what the Volvo engineers were up to when they allowed such a poor build for maintainability on the road. It is certainly the worst engineered car I had ever had. Why oh why did I buy it!!! Granted it looks nice and I do like the wet screen activated wipers.

This Car Is Auto. I'm A Very Worried Man. 7000 Mil
This car is Auto. I'm a very worried man. 7000 miles on the clock and problems starting to appear.
Worryingly delayed acceleration from a standing start.
Selected drive, no power and gear didn't engage (auto gearbox).
Radio has intermittent fault, sometimes finds a station sometimes not. Power steering lost whilst negotiating slowly in car park (happened once).
Volvo has investigated today and found nothing wrong with the car.
Watch this space!!!
