Great Little Bike
I bought my bike new 2 months ago as I wanted something nice and light to tour around the local hills, valleys and coastline.I had been looking at Keeways for 4 or 5 years and was impressed with the finish on the bike and at €1,799 euro in Ireland I thought it was excellent value for money. Anyway when I got the bike first I found the engine and gearbox very tight but I was patient with it and kept my top speed to 80kph and the revs at max 7,000
for the first 1,000 km. I changed the engine oil myself at 400km and there was quite a bit of metal fillings in the oil strainer. I cleaned this thoroughly and filled up again with new oil. I had the first service at 800km. After this I could feel the engine loosening out.I have now put up 1,700 km and the bike is really running well. It is comfortable and has a nice bit of power and will actually top 100km but is not too comfortable at this. Best speed for me is 80-85kph. The front brake is very good and I have had no problems with grip on the Kenda tyres fitted. I have done a couple of 200km plus round trips and am averaging around 105mpg. I fitted a Puig Screen and a Givi box. Overall this is a very good product and starts first push of the start button every time.I have just changed the oil again and checked the strainer and it was spotless. I can now push out my oil changes to 2,000km.I would recommend the Keeway Speed to anyone. I would also recommend that it is cleaned regularly and that all metal and in particular chrome parts are treated with ACF 50 every couple of months to keep any rust away. This is the case for most bikes nowadays.
1 litre of 10W40 Semi synthetic is what I use.
How much oil do I put in

I have done many long journeys on mine. I have done 300-450km 1 day trips all over the country. The bike is comfortable and when its run in you should be able to drive along at 90kph no problem. As it is only a 125 try not to rev the guts out of it and it should last forever. Big thing with these is to keep it as clean as possible. Buy yourself a tin of ACF50 and spray it onto a cloth and wipe down all the chrome parts and frame with it. Keep the tank and side panels polished and if you have a place to keep it in from the weather rust should not bother you. If you are keeping it outside buy a cover for it. The one thing I replaced on mine after 2000km was the chain as I was having to adjust it too often. I bought a good quality Japanese chain for €45 and since I put it on did not have to touch it in 3000km. I have lots of info on these so give me a shout on this if you need any help or advice.

Bought Mine A Couple Of Weeks Ago And Just Had The
Bought mine a couple of weeks ago and just had the first 500km service today. Only problem I've had is with the battery. This stopped the electric start from working so I had to use the kick start. The battery was replaced under warranty. Interestingly, it was the only Japanese part on the bike.
Only niggling points are you need to lift the foot rest up to use the kick start. Not very convenient if you stall at a roundabout. However, the electric start avoids this problem. The side stand is pretty delicate. You need to be careful using it as it has a strong spring and can whip up unexpectedly.
Great points are the gear change. Use the heel to go up the gears rather than using the toe. Very handy having the choke on the left handlebar. Also the display shows the gear numbers.
Other than the battery giving up, I've had no problems at all with this bike. Easy to handle, quick and smooth to ride. I've never taken it above 50mph as it's still being run in but I reckon it will exceed 60. Fast enough for a 125cc and fast enough for me.
I paid £1.499 for mine brand new. A good deal cheaper than a new Honda. I'll run it until I pass my test and then get something bigger.
For a starter bike, I'd definately recommend it. I got mine from Dunfermline Motorcycles, great people to deal with.

Bought One For Commuting Really, Saving Over &poun
Bought one for commuting really, saving over £100 per month on fuel. With the added bonus that I love it! Rain, Snow (which can be scary) sunshine... fab!
Use it every day, 4000km in 5 1/2 months. Has started first time every time even when we had the recent very cold spell, down to minus 9 !!!!
Have put a windshield on and a Keeway coloour coded top-box... looks great.
I'm just over 6ft tall and 15 stone and it does move quite nicely, although can't get more than 62 ish! but that'sfine for now.
Excellent value for money. I hadn't ridden a motorbike since I had a yammy Fs1E back in 1978 so when I passed CBT, I went looking for something that I could start again on but not paying the earth because I didn't know if I would like biking again. I love it and so pleased with the bike.
Really interesting, I'm much at the same place of you, having used small bikes many years ago and thought I'd like to ride again. I note your review is from Feb 2010, so a quick question please, as we are over 18 months later now, do you still hold your high opinion of the Keyway Superlight please and/or what issues have you encountered if any?
Regards
David

I Rode A Suzuki125 For 5 Years And I Find The Keew
I rode a suzuki125 for 5 years and I find the Keeway125 to be an excellent equivalent.
The Suzy125 was about 25KGs lighter in weight and this made it a bit easier to handle than the Keeway125 but this detail is far outweighed by the reliability and price of the Keeway.
Also the Suzy125 was bit low down for me as I'm about 180cm tall. The Keeway 125 seat is much higher off the road and thats cool for taller guys and gals.
I would prefer a more upright seating position on the Keeway125 but its not a huge issue for me.

Am very pleased with the Keeway Speed 125. Got this bike new in june 08. This is a great commuter machine and can be used for longer journeys. Has beautiful design, large size and is very fun to drive. Is nippy with good acceleration.
Q&A
Does anyone know after how many miles do I need to do its 1st service? I lost my book.
