Nintaus N 9808 Silver - I Purchased This Unit For
Nintaus N 9808 Silver - I purchased this unit for my wife to use as a CD player in the bedroom (JB HiFi Brisbane $85) and found it played just about everything, even VCD's produced by Nero 6 that other DVD/VCD players could not. (Known problems regarding the Menu option). It also easily viewed files in Jpg format on a CDRW, straight PC copies, no special setup.

My Review Is Short And Sweet, For $70 Aud You Can'
My review is short and sweet, for $70 AUD you can't go wrong with the Nintaus N 9808 Silver player, it plays everything you throw at it, my only gripes with this player is that the remote is way too big, also there is no power off button but until tonight I have found some hidden buttons. If you look below the Return Subtitle Angle Prog buttons and get something pointy then you and run it along on the sticker until you will notice that there is holes below the sticker, for some strange reason Nintaus cut these buttons off and stuck the sticker over the holes, now with the hole below the Return button is actually the Power Off button!! Believe it or not, the rest I can't figure out yet on what they are, you got to wonder why they would leave out the power button eh, other thing which is a little frustrating is that if you turn off the player or if it powers off then you can't resume from where you left off with the movie but I suppose for $70 I can't complain.

All I Can Add To The Previous Reviews Is That This
All I can add to the previous reviews is that this model now has Progressive scan (480p/60 NTSC and 576p/50.
Not too bad from what I have seen so far. Progressive works on my Sony KVEH36M31 (480p/60Hz on NTSC disks, 576p/50Hz on PAL). Region free of course, but I gather macrovision is hard to defeat (doesn't bother me). Haven't had a look inside, but would like to know which de-interlacer
it uses. The other Nintaus progressive model uses Faroudja. Surely not in a $99 player?
Other comments:
Disk tray is very flimsy
Menus are a lot better than the N9901 I had earlier
Can flick from progressive/Y-Pb-Pr to interlaced/composite on the fly (good
for A-B.ing)
No front power standby.
Remote is weird
Manual is classic Chinglish
A progressive scan player for $99? The 1 yr warranty could come into play,
but we'll have to see.

Bought It Not Really Expecting Much, But I Was Ple
Bought it not really expecting much, but I was pleasantly suprised with this DVD unit considering the price I paid ($99.00 AUS = approx $65.00 USD)
Picked it up at JB HiFi in Melbourne. On screen menus are v.good, case and build quality looks v.good, came with 3-way RCA cable, remote and batteries included. Display is blue LED - nice and clear. It had a good range of analog buttons on the actual unit itself (and the front panel still didn't look "too busy") - this is handy if you ever lose the remote or have flat batteries.
Sound and picture quality is excellent considering the price. Lots of different menu functions for both video and audio setup which were easy to navigate thru. This unit was as quiet as a church mouse with the sound turned down - I was very impressed. It came with a 12 month warranty.
This unit gets a 9/10 - nearly a perfect score, but not quite. This was because it came with the Macrovison protection and I had to make arrangements to get this unlocked. Apart from this, it is a very impressive unit for the amount of cash I paid.
I agree entirely.

The Nintaus N 9808 Dvd-player Belongs To Nintaus'
The Nintaus N 9808 DVD-player belongs to Nintaus' latest model line and it's very similar to Nintaus N 9868. The difference between the two DVD-players are basically that Nintaus N 9808 doesn't have progressive scan and it doesn't have scart connection.
But as usual Nintaus has added exciting features, rarely seen elsewhere. I can mention support of WMA, CD-G and Picture-CD.
The chips used inside the DVD-player are the finest presently available in any brand (Zoran/Audio).
Audio sound is exceptional for a DVD player, especially because the internal dd is a rather good one. Music is very much like a dedicated CD deck. Movie audio is faultless.
Very good Mp3 reader: Play's all folder's however each folder has to be selected for menu display or only first folder will display while it plays all. Very good VCD 2.0 reader: Play's all folder with select and go function.
The picture is good especially because of the 1. class laser and the progressive scan functionality in the DVD-player.
If the Japanese part of your family comes to visit, the Nintaus N 9808 also has all nessesary Karaoke functions, so you all will be able to sing along. As a new feature you can now use CD-G karaoke!
It has a very good remote control. The user interface are improved with a user friendly menu structure using icons. This interface is very similar to the interface you are used to on your PC.
The user manual is easy to understand and written in english with instructive pictures or diagrams. Last, but not least, this slimline model has a great design, so the dvd-player looks good in your livingroom.

Softb price (approx.): £146,00
I bought one of these in 2003 when the price dropped below $100 for the first time. 12 years and three kids later, it still works perfectly. If it were a car, I've no doubt it would have more than a million kms on the odometer.
