I Treated Myself To This Siemens Sl55 Hand Set Ove
I treated myself to this Siemens SL55 hand set over a year ago and there is no sign of it giving up on me yet. It's a brilliant phone to have and still turns heads. The ability to interactive with my computer and select new ring tones etc., has created hours of fun down the pub.
I love the phone but maybe it is time to update it?

I Bought This Phone Because Of Its Size And Looks
I bought this phone because of its size and looks mainly. I loved the fact it was light and small.
BUT
Within a day or two it was already turning off. I had had my phone book loaded onto it in the phone shop, and the SL55 just couldn't take it. It froze and turned off a number of times.
I took it back within a couple of days and got a refund.

Fell In Love With This Phone And Got It Free On T-
Fell in love with this phone and got it free on T-Mobile. Was disappointed with the lack of spec but stuck with it. After a year it started turning itself off, luckily with no loss of info on the memory. It has no separate tones for incoming text messages as far as I can tell. The tone I use goes on forever but was the best of a bad bunch! It has just started to get on my nerves and I feel like sending it back to siemens! Thank god my contract is up this month. Most people have had trouble from the word go with this phone but I escaped with a good, if basic one year. Wouldn't recommend it now unless you hardly ever use a mobile.

I've had my Siemens SL55 for a week now and all I can say is, it's rubbish, the buttons are bad, the screen is not good, you have to look very hard at it. It's bad at texting. This phone is aimed at girls who want something small in there handbag, thank god I sold it.

I Bought The Siemens Sl55 A Few Months Back, Upgra
I bought the Siemens SL55 a few months back, upgrading from Ericcson T68i. The reason I went for this phone was because I previously owned the SL45, and further more upgraded it to the SL45i. The SL45(i) had good quality, hard case, structually sound.
When opening the SL55, it was in mint condition, with original screen cover still on. When charging it, it took roughly two hours before I had it fully charged for the first time. When turning the phone on, it had good animation at the start, (a blue ball going to the centre of the screen) and then 'Aircraft Mode' - This was a suprising find when I turned on the phone, and yes, it can be annoying; but it is all for good cause.
When texting my friends, I noticed that the keypad became very tacky and plastic-ee after a while. I struggled in looking for a new case; and ended up just still using my Ruby, tacky case.
And that leads me to up this very day, where I still use the phone. I agree, there are many flaws.
Extra Advice: This is not a professional phone, ideally used for under sixteen year olds only. Risk to use the phone is texts may be auto-deleted (Holds 105).
Thank you,
Kyle.

First Things First, This Phone Looked Good When It
First things first, this phone looked good when it first came out and had a real 'wow' factor. Now that everyone knows what it looks like there really isn't any point owning one. This was the first non Nokia phone I have owned and I really regret choosing this one. The phone freezes constantly requiring the removal of the battery. Then it won't come back on again. The screen size is tiny making the browser functions almost redundant. And finally the left and right navigation buttons stick making the phone nigh on impossible to navigate around. I paid £230 for the voice activated in car kit which I found to be fantastic unfortunately it wasn't feasible to go to the car every time I wanted to use the phone. Please please please stay away from this mobile.

If you buy the Siemens SL55 your in the game, the best phone I ever had. Camera perfect and has never froze, it says it freezers if you drop it. best phone I ever used.
You say this is the best phone you have ever had and there are no flaws; surely then shouldn't you be recommending it? You selected, "No - not recommended." That confuses me.

I'll Admit, It Was An Impulse Buy. I Live In The U
I'll admit, it was an impulse buy. I live in the US and had to use Ebay to buy my Siemens SL55 from the UK. I had not actually seen one in person until this piece of rubbish arrived at my home. You've read the other reviews and have heard about how cool it is but by now, it's yesterday's news. Everybody and their brother has seen this phone by now, leaving absolutely no reason whatsoever to buy it.
Ironically, for as good as it looks from a distance, the screen is abysmal. One of my coworkers bought a Motorola T610 around the same time I got my SL55 and I was honestly embarassed to show him the screen on my phone after I saw the dazzling display on his. It's so bad that it makes things like backgrounds essentially pointless. The biggest downfall of the software is its instability; prepare yourself for frequent crashes. A battery removal will typically solve the problem. And speaking of the battery, it's awful, although it's hard to imagine it lasting for very long when you see the size of it. A month or two into owning this phone and I was getting less than 24 hours of use out of it. If you know you're going to be out late on a Friday night, plan on charging it again before you leave work or you'll never make it to any of the late night clubs.
Surprisingly, the reception is fair. Note that I said "fair", not great. It's as good as any other single-band phone I've owned, I just expected it to be bad given the size of the unit.
The true worth of the SL55 is the possible attention you might get from someone who's never seen one before. My friends call mine "the Barbie phone" so obviously it didn't do much for me.

The Screen Freezes Without Warning And Depending O
The screen freezes without warning and depending on what you are trying to do at the time will either wipe your inbox or your phone book. This was the first non-nokia mobile I have had and it has not encouraged me to buy any other non-nokias. Therefore I am buying a new Nokia 6610. The only plus side is that this Siemens was a free upgrade and so I have not lost any money as the money I got for selling my old Nokia can buy me a new one. My only piece of advice is, just don't buy this product!

I Bought The Siemens Sl55 Phone Because I Thought
I bought the Siemens SL55 phone because I thought it looked good, and yes it does fulfill that criteria. I like the proslide mechanism; you can actually set the proslide to autolock the keys when closed, although, if you set a sound effect with the proslide, there is a noticeable delay before it actually sounds; a bit like a badly dubbed kung fu movie. The menus are fairly easy to navigate, you just need to get used to it if you haven't used a Siemens phone before. The phone speaker isn't loud enough in terms of ringing and text message alert etc. The build quality is a little bit ropey - not as solid as you might expect, and the screen scratches easily. I think if you were to summarise, its a nice looking phone, and it is quite functional, but definately nothing special.
Now then, it has a couple of fatal flaws that make me "say do not buy this phone at all costs". Reading the rest of the reviews I notice that these aren't one off problems, there is inherent problems with this phone. It has deleted all the numbers in my phone book, twice - for no reason whatsover. I have got Orange to replace it twice now for this problem. Another problem is that it freezes, meaning you must take the battery off to reset. It also turns itself off randomly. This is not only annoying, but it is extremely detrimental to anyone who relies on their phone, for example at work etc. A phone should be judged on its qualities, not its ablity to function. Unfortunately in this case, its the latter.
Nice looking phone, OK functionality... When it functions.
Don't buy it.
As an after thought. I'm in contract with Orange - which I have to say are a good network in general - coverage, tariffs, customer service etc. However I find it ridiculous that when reporting the various faults which they are obviously aware of, i.e. deleting of the phone book etc. They just give you another SL55, just so it can happen to you again... so you report it again, and they give you another SL55. Stupid really.
