These Little Quad 11l Stereo Speakers Are Amazing.

These little Quad 11L stereo speakers are amazing. Despite their size, they really manage to give a clearcut sound at every level of the range, though a little weak on the bass, which is understandable because of their size. What is less understandable, though, is the level of these speakers compared with any other average speakers of higher price and so-called "high-end" level (Mission, Tannoy, even Cabasse). The 11-L made me cry like a baby when I heard my Cds for the first time through these speakers and an AMC 3000 Amplifier. True! The sound appears so real, so...normal, natural. I can't wait to purchase the woofer or the 22-L to compensate the lack of bass under 45Hz.

On top of all that, these speakers look beautiful, especially in rosewood, you'll be amazed by the perfection of the piano lacquer !

I nearly bought the little 11Ls so I'd have to agree that, although they do pack a punch for their size, they can be slightly lacking in the bass department. However, it depends upon what kind of music you like, room size, existing kit etc. I'd go for the 12Ls or 21Ls (which I've got). You may trade off some clarity for extra weight. I think, however, that the 22Ls are overkill, and you sacrifice too much detail,

I Purchased The Quad 11l's In May Of 2003, Just Af

I purchased the Quad 11L's in may of 2003, just after buying the bigger Quad 22L for my main set in my living room.

I am running the 11L's on a Rega Brio Amp connected to an Arcam CD72 as well as a Sony CD Player 930E , I alternate between the two players as the Arcam can be a little too warm ith certain discs, Interconnects are Encore MK2 , cable is Nordost Solar wind.

The reality is that these speakers really do sound better after a good run in, in my case that was 36 hours continuous.

The first thing that hits you is the open sound of these speakers, the midrange is exceptional as is the bass punch which really has you scratching your head at first as it seems impossible that such a thud can be generated by an item so small.

Give a delicate but spacial track like 'Everybody's gotta learn sometime' by the Korgies and you will see what im talking about, they deliver every single detail.

Give them some welly like You outta know by Alanis Morrisette, and they just ask for more, I have to say that they give many speakers in the £500 GBP price band a very good run for the money, such as the Dynaudio and Ruark Epilogues.

Out of curiosity I connected them to my main set up of Cyrus 8 with PSXr with Cyrus CD7Q / PSXr , and they coped perfectly, not as bass heavy as the 22L as you would expect, but not a bad performance by any standards.

I convinced a girlfriend of mine to invest in a pair in september 2003, they are connected to the Quad CDP99 and the 99 power amp, speaker wire is silver aniversary BI, interconnect is the Cyrus DNM, all I will say is outstanding...

I tried the 22L in my office in the upstairs of my home, where I have a set of 11L , the reason was to hear the difference, the 22L's sounded perfect, the beauty of these speakers is that they added a whole new set of lower frequencies, instead of bang and boom that you would think would happen, they sounded three times heavier than the 11's, without sounding too over the top.

If it was me I would go for them without reservation.

A While Ago I Got My Hands On A Pair Of 11l Quads

A while ago I got my hands on a pair of 11L Quads to match my Sansui integrated. I was looking for a pair at about 600-650 € (or $ I guess) and was just about to buy AudioVector's C1mkii when I came across these beauties. I considered if they would sound half as good as they look they would be right home with me.Well.. they did. To be honest as they were first hooked up to a Yamaha Av (not sure for the model) I was quite dissapointed. So much for the looks, I thought. Anyway not willing to give up yet (you have to see them up close to know why) I had the salesman connect them to a Cairn Amp and everything cleared up.These speakers are amazing. The sound is natural ,vivid (not harsh),speed is great and the bass is suprisingly low and punchy. Their cabinet and finish is beyond criticism.

Well their price in UK is about 380 pounds. Funny thing is in Greece ,where I bought them they cost about 350 euros!(almost half the price). I don't know why (and I didn't ask why for that matter). If you are out for a pair of bookshelf speakers give them a listen (it's worth even if you are not).

* Quad suggests a 50hr playing for the speakers to break in. I would double that. Only after 3 1/2 days of continuous running did the speakers really begun to sing.
