I Bought This Laptop A 1.42ghz Ibook G4 To Take

I bought this laptop a 1.42GHz ibook G4 to take to Iraq for entertainment during an Army tour in 2006. i had been advised that the build quality was superb and the motion sensors would protect the hard drive. Well, after months of being banged around in my Bergan, thrown about in helicopters and operating in the dusty muck of Iraq sand I can say that this laptop is the most rugged and reliable laptop I have ever owned. It was expensive when purchased from apple store (compared to PC laptops) - BUT it is the laptop I am still using to write this, whilst my partners PC laptops bought over the same period lie dead in the attic.

I must confess to be a clumsy, careless bloke - It survived me and still loads and works faster than most PCs I've had to use for work.

Ive Still Got My Ibook G4 And Have Had It Since 20

ive still got my ibook G4 and have had it since 2004.

Touch wood its all still in tip top condition.

Ive recently replaced the battery as the original one was lasting 40 mins max. the new one lasts 5 hours!

I do have an MBP as well however i couldnt bring myself to discard the ibook.

It still works, its had its upgrades and i still love it.

Its dead handy having it to do some things for me whilst im working on the MBP or my quicksilver.!

I never want to get rid of the little ibook ever!

I will continue to use it until it falls apart. Its got history with me.

we are like best friends.

I recommend this to anyone! its cute, really nice looking and does all those things you want. It wont run intel based progs like Maya for example.

But it can run after effects! oddly enough my quicksilver (same spec as my ibook) refuses to run after effects. ( i need to add more ram) So my little ibook steps right up to the mark there.

Hurrah for the ibook

I Have A Dilemma. G4 Laptop Hd Has Crashed (i Had

I have a dilemma. G4 laptop HD has crashed (I had no back up... never learned how to use my la cie... aaagh but £170 later and a wonderful bunch of guys in a remac company have saved the data...phew). Now I need to decide whether to renew HD or buy new macbook. Money is an issue, so fixing is appealing and I really liked that mac. I'm a bit concerned that other bits may start to go. Anyone got a word on that? Am I stretching it a bit too far expecting more than 5 years from my faithful ibook?

(Iwould have liked to have clear guidance on how to back up to an external HD autmatically esp how to back up All in the 'Mail')

After Nearly Four Fabulous Years With My Apple Ibo

After nearly four fabulous years with my Apple Ibook G4 Laptop, I am finally ready to let go of it. However, the ironic thing is that I don't NEED a new computer, I've just come to the blatant realization that it is time for a new one since I use it so often.

Prior to purchasing my Ibook G4 back in 2006 for $1100, I owned two laptop computers. The first one was an HP that I purchased at Best Buy for $600. It lasted 11 months before it was completely inoperable. After that I purchased a Dell for $700 which stopped working properly after a mere five months. I finally came to the ultimate yet blatant realization that computers with Windows operating systems simply were not built to last. My friends and family were having the same problem with their computers, they simply were not lasting.

Back in 2006 I knew nothing about Macs other than the fact that they were double the price of a PC. I did not know anyone who owned one or had ever owned one, but I decided to take a daring move. I was starting college in the fall and decided I wanted an Apple computer for my HS graduation.

My father and I were shocked when we arrived at the Mac Store (then an hour from my house) by the prices. The CHEAPEST computer was the Apple Ibook G4 which I purchased for $1100. This was quite an astonishment because in the PC Realm, $1100 will get you one of the most expensive computers.

I got the basic model. It has a small, 12 inch screen which I find cute, it had a 1.33 GHZ PowerPC Processor and 512 MB of memory. These statistics sound terrible today but three years ago they were fairly impressive. My father and I left feeling somewhat hesitant about spending so much money on a computer we knew nothing about.

FAS% FORWARD 3 YEARS: the computer works JUST AS WELL TODAY as it did the day I bought it. I know that is a difficult claim to comprehend but it is the honest truth. As sppn as my friends checked out my MAC, 4 of them had one within 3 months. All of a sudden, my college computer lab is filled with Apple Desktops as opposed to the usual PC's.

One of the best things about Mac;s that I find is the notion that you CANNOT receive viruses or pop-ups becase those types of things are designedd for PC's/.

The ciomputet travels with considerable ease and displaus a great deal of durability. Over thecourse of my ownership of this item, I have lugged it to school Atlantic City, Maryland, Florida, etc. and there have been NO detrimental effects.

You could purchase a $500 Dell/HP/Toshiba for $600 that will last you a year. Or you can purchase a Mac for $1100 that will last you five years. You do the math.

Sound and picture quality.Has enough memory for using as a work computer.

The Ibook G4 is a good laptop and you get what you pay for (it's worth the money). After a while it can get boring and you may want to update to a newer version. Therefore I well recommend the Apple iBook G4 Laptop.

I Got This Ibook 2nd Hand From Cex Exchange. I Did

I got this iBook 2nd hand from CEX Exchange. I did a lot of research on Apple on the CEX web site before I bought the laptop. I got the laptop in July 08. It is practically brand new and only cost £350! Earlier this year I had got an Advent laptop in a sale and it had tons of features of it and was a Vista Premium. Put Vista and Norton together and what do you get? UPDATES! Everytime I switched on the laptop Norton took over like a demon. I could not go on the internet or use the computer because Norton was downloading updates. It would take an hour to load and then I would get an error message saying the the update and had been aborted or the laptop would go spinning into a black hole and I could not shut it down. This kept happening over and over. It was driving me crazy. I have used an apple computer before and I thought if I could just get my hands on a 2nd hand iBook around 300 quid. I fancied the 12". I found it at the Arndale Centre and it was only 30G Hard drive but internet works without constant interruption. It's a 2003 and I updated it on the Apple Web Site and then I could sit down and play with it. It had no office software installed so I downloaded Neo Open Source which has all the office applications for free. It came with the usual Apple Software (garageband/itunes etc). I don't have to worry about hackers, viruses or configuring stuff. I just switch it on and I don't see Norton or those endless balloon pop-ups. It's great for people who want a basic laptop for office and email and itunes and more important do not want the endless pain-in-the-neck updates with internet security. It is 2003 so it might not be for everyone but I think it was worth every penny.

I found this review very helpful because the author's needs matched my own for a laptop, the product was confirmed as best value, and I learned all about the CEX exchange - THANKS!

Really easy to use, slick neat and fast, infact the only bad point I have to make from my experience is the Apple iBook G4's keyboard comes out too easily in my opinion. But still overall an excellent creation and well recommended by me.

I Got An Apple Ibook G4 12 Inch Not Too Long Ago,

I got an Apple iBook G4 12 inch not too long ago, for around $500. It surpassed any other laptop I have used. The case itself makes you want to stare at it for hours, and feels strong, and I know I can take it places without it breaking. The 40gb HDD doesn't quite cut it, however, because with all the Apps and Mac OS X it leaves you with about 14gb. I upgraded it to 768mb RAM, and is still fast, yet reliable. It will almost never crash unlike others, and won't get viruses/spyware/etc either! The battery on the iBook is just as impressive as the laptop itself, and it lasted for about 3 hours, which beats the less than 2 hours I got on my other laptop. If you are looking for a reliable laptop, that's lightweight and affordable, I highly recommend going to Apple. Mac OS X is easy to switch to (I already was familiar with it so I didn't have to really switch to it.) and you'll love it in the long run.
