Reasonable First Bike But Not Built As Well As You'd Hope

I have a 2011 xt 125x. It's done 19000 miles, although the speedo reckons it's done 18000 as it keeps changing it's mind and displaying ten mph less than my actual speed/ distance. It's very good on fuel, 80 mpg plus, it will sit at around 50 mph, maybe 65 flat out with a tail wind[ don't believe people who say 125's go 80 mph, they really don't, I've owned 8]. Exhaust is rusty but still holding together, shock is still fine, suspension is a bit thin but the oem fork seals lasted 15000 miles. Has a stupid diaphragm fuelling system meaning when you remove the fuel tank you get loads of fuel spitting at you[ why not use a petcock??] wheels/ spokes are fine, never needed looking at, headlight attachment is stupid and irritating to remove to change the headlight bulb, swap it for one held on with rubber straps! airbox connector to the carb is quite weak plastic and has snapped on mine. I removed the egr valve and noticed a small power improvement. Seat is very very comfy, I've done 200 miles in one go on the bike without even refuelling! It's only broken down three times in three years of ownership- two of those are because of dirt blocking the pilot jet[ easy fix but irritating] another was the clutch going nuts. At 10,000 miles, when releasing the clutch there was a banging sound. I've changed the whole clutch system, numerous plates, checked the throwout rod and bearing, pressure plate, basket, fitted genuine and aftermarket cables, nothing fixes this issue. It's all right if you're riding around and not stopping, but filtering and going down to first and second a lot is annoying, it's so clunky. I think as other owners of bikes with this engine have had the same issue it must be a gearbox issue. Apart from all that, it is a great little bike, it starts easily, parts are very cheap and easy to get from the factory in china, my tyres last at least 5000 miles, brake pads last years, I've only gone through two sets and still on the original brake discs! You can jack the suspension up too on the swingarm as the bike is too low standard, I've fitted bar risers so it isn't as cramped. It has held 50 mph with me [12 stone] and my gf 8 stone] on it. Valve clearance checks are really easy and can be done in an hour. If you want it to look better, cut off the stupid tail tidy they come with and fit an enduro one, cut off the plastic under the subframe and make sure you leave the three wires intact for the brake light and indicators. I got mine for 1200 pounds with 5000 miles as it was a cosmetic cat c, but I don't think it's worth the three grand price tag it came with new. If you can get one of these used for under 1500, get it, but the serious contender would be a lexmoto adrenaline or sinnis apache, both are just as good as the yamaha and at a much more affordable price.

Yamaha Xt125x Freedom!

I got this bike a few months back in September from a private sale for the princely sum of £1800 (including delivery by the guy!),and I can honestly say it is the best purchase I have ever made!.I hadn't ridden bikes since the mid 80's,and my last bike was a Honda XL125 traile whitch i loved and adored in my late teens but I sadly had to sell because of financial reasons. 30 years down the line I decided I wanted to get a bike again for getting around town and for doing the occasional long 200 mile trip to Swansea and i settled on the Yamaha (i almost went for the Honda xr125). I have been riding it about quite alot and i have done two 200 mile trips on it and i am very pleased with how it is serving me! It is perfect,as long as you dont drive like a plonker you can get upwards of 100 mpg, and this means low running costs as it is only £8 to fill up! I find it can cope fine on dual carriage ways crusing at about 65mph but it is capable of 70 if I push it. Round town it is great as I can park it anywhere and better still I dont have to pay. But the best thing about it is the sense of freedom you get when you are riding! oh my I forgot the blissful feeling of nothingness when you are riding along, just shifting your body weight to move through the corners feeling at one with the bike and the world around you,it dosnt even compare to the boring commute in a car!

I would defiantly recommend this bike to anyone who is thinking of buying it,and it is by no means 'slow' as many of the other reviews have stated,it does take a little longer to get up to speed but it gives the feeling of a rolls royce insted of a supped up vauxhal corsa!

Hope this review was helpful

kind regards

Steve

Superb Performance

Got this bike the beginning of this year. I had a bajaj ct100. This bike comes with a mono-suspension which can handle moderately rough terrain. The clutch and acceleration, once adjusted, works wonders. It does not quite reach 140km on the free-way, but 120km when you're in the right position is good enough. The handling and endurance is good, It feels stable. Very good for all purpose driving

Useless

If you want something to go to work with, then I'll guess that this bike could suit you. It's more fun than a scooter. But if you're young and don't have the age for riding anything bigger, don't get this bike. I got this bike to get my license, but I hated it every second on it. The handling is really bad. You do NOT want to take this out on a twisty road. Don't trust the speedo, it tops about 55 mph. But if you have the right air, wind in your back and downhill you might reach 62 mph. So going out on the highway is just embarrassing with it. The clutch is really, really bad. My buddy on his original Derbi Senda 50cc could almost accelerate faster than my XT.

The few good things about this bike is the gearbox, the fuel consumption (good on any 4-stroke) and the price (since nobody wants the bike).

Good Bike But

had this bike for about 2 years now a 2008 xt125 x,first impressions excellent bike it looks cool sounds good for a supermoto easy bike to ride.right lets get on with the problems,1st i had to have a new loom, bike kept turn off or wont even start that was done under warrenty so saved money there was told to keep spraying the loom wth WD40 has these bikes got a problem in that area.then started to get problems with the clocks, brake pads dont last to long and now to sum it all up the spindle for some reason wont come out looks like it has seized inside.parts are easy to get loads of bikes and parts on ebay.another thing is the gear box yamaha has governed it there so reving past the gears so quick you cant get any drive out of it think 5th gear is ok only got about 55mph out of mine..got to watch when big companys like yamaha move their work to china the quality goes with it.
