Shambolic Check In And Security
Was informed check in for my 8.20 flight to Palma would open at 6.20. Arrived at 6.00 and pleased to see desk already open but only one member of staff at the desk. There were around 10 people in front of me. Around 6.25 another member of staff arrived to open a second check in desk which was the time my cases were being checked in. This was around a 20 minute wait but the member of staff was helpful and polite and in any event I didn't expect to be checked in until 6.20. However, what happened next was a complete and utter shambles. I went up the stairs to go through security and although there wasn't that many people in front it took 50 minutes to get through and the queue behind me was now very long. Announcements kept being made for remaining passengers travelling to Alicante and Pula to make their way immediately to the gate. These were followed by more announcements stressing this is the final call. The poor passengers were all on time but stuck in this never ending queue and all at the point of panic. Airport staff had to lift the cordon and rush a couple through in order to catch their flight and I believe (though this may not be correct) some baggage had to be offloaded from the aircraft as passengers were not ready to board. Once I eventually got through the intention was to have a breakfast at Weatherspoons but customers were being turned away by Weatherspoons staff and told by the time they got to front of the queue there would not be time for food. I made my way over to Subway where there was only 5 people waiting but only one member of staff and the first customer waiting placed a massive order. Waited 20 minutes, placed my order only to hear my flight being called. Everyone on the aircraft were starving hungry as all had left home extremely early and the poor cabin crew were running around like maniacs trying to cope with an excessive amount of orders and supplies eventually ran out. The security checks are important but I think the staff need more training on how to cope so passengers can have a smooth and stress free start to their holiday rather than this utter shambles!
Poor Arrival Home
after a short flight from reus airport in spain, which arrived on time, things were looking good; then we exited the aeroplane and queued to pass through customs. luckily the weather was very kind and the sun was shining, I say luckily because we had to queue outside a very long time. there wasn't any toilet facilities in the queuing area and out of five passport control stations, only two had customs officers in them; although two more did arrive after a bout a fifteen minute wait. once we had passed through passport control we had another long wait to claim our luggage. from landing it took fifty minutes to land and exit the airport' when our flight took just over two hours ten minutes. toilet facilities need to be in place, and all of the passport control stations need to be manned by officers to ensure a quicker passage through control.
I had a similar experience but in reverse. Took 50 minutes to get through security and there were only about 10 people in front. I arrived well before time hoping to get something to eat but Weatherspoons (staffed by 2 people!) said they could not possibly serve everyone as by the time breakfasts were cooked flights would be boarding. Tried Subway which is the only other food outlet but just had one member of staff here - by the time I placed my order the flight was called. Normally this is a lovely hassle free airport but something has gone badly wrong with security and it needs addressing.
Same for me. From 30deg to 4deg and for half an hour at 2.00 am. Absolutely horrific! Freezing cold and queuing like a cattle market. Thank goodness no rain!
I have used this air port since it opened. Will not use it again. Would rather drive to EM and pay to park.

Hidden Gem ??
Why does not the airline world wake up on this one. What a super airport- acessible and so easy- people fight with traffic to manchester and leeds and the other placeswhilst this is just so easy to get to- in to and they dont rip you off for parking for a 3 minute drop off.
come on world-- if it was good enough for the concord tests and vucan bombers -- it must be decent

Great Airport
Arrived on 30th September for a flight to Malaga. We went straight to Security check in as only Had hand luggage. There weren't any queues, the staff were pleasant and helpful.Plenty of seats to sit on in the departure lounge. Ate at the.Running Horse Pub where we received excellent service. Also good on return leg with exception of surly man checking passports, other staff were great. Exterior of the airport was very clean & litter free in contrast to some others. Also only 40 mins from Newark.Would definitely fly from here again.

Penny Pinching
I read that Doncaster Sheffield Airport has just been voted the best airport in the UK. Whoever voted for them obviously were not travelling on the 26th August this year. We arrived two hours before our flight. It took ages to check in (Thomsonfly's fault. Not the airport) but the queue to get through security was unbelievable. It took absolutely ages to get through and then, as expected, when we eventually arrived at the security checks only two of the four lines were manned. I used to deal with Peel Ports, the airport owners, before I retired. They always gave the impression that they valued their last penny far more than they valued their customers and this was yet another example. The only saving grace was that on this occasion I had not booked the Premier Lounge. As we cleared security just 5 minutes before our flight was called it would have been a total waste of money!

Treated Like A Criminal, Not A Holidaymaker
Really tight ghestapo feel to tge whole experience. Stared at made to feel unwelcome and intimidated by staff who wanted a negative response so tgey could swing into action and feel some excitement and reason for existing. I am ex military and this place is deepky creepy and extremely unfriendlt. The staff dont want to to leave the country.
I went with my daughter laughing to stand at the check in gate, I was abused by a member of tge fly be gate staff whi chastised me for standibg at tge check in gate even though check in was late. Was humiliated by this aggressive nasty woman. She was saying to me "im not goibg on holiday and so I dobt give a damn). I sat down with my daughter and felt threatened, very unsafe and deepl sick feeling in my dtomach. I seriously hope this airport shuts down as tge staff are exactly like prison xamp guards. They HATE holidaymakers. Even though we pay their wages. Unless tge all calm the hell down the airport will be bancrupt. I live in Doncaster but if this carries on im going to fly from Manchester instead. The Doncaster staff have too much time ditting about so tgey harang and harrass customers.

First Class Putting Large International Airports To Shame
I have travelled to many airports and have found the majority of these are very stressful because of attitudes of staff especially border controls who in many cases are downright rude. You would think that people going on holiday would be happy but unfortunately this is not the case ..until i started travelling from Robin hood airport......
From the moment we arrived at the airport we were that with respect and dignity from everyone that works at the airport....This was from the curtesy shown to us from the booking in from our cases to the very positive polite and welcoming security staff even telling us to have a good holiday...right to the staff at the restaurant in calling me sir and then delivering our meal personally to the table.....This is what customer service is all about and is part of your holiday and travel experience...Boarding the plane at the gates was dream with no pushing or queuing for ages and you were called up by seat number......There is nothing that i can fault the airport with. i would score you 10/10 Outstanding...Well done....!!!

Not Good Here
not a good experience
surly security staff, only two passport staff on re-entry from abroad one for non uk citizens so took a lot longer to process and one for uk passport holders, in all we were a small aircraft coming in (around 50 passengers) so slow to get through this area, god know what would happen if a 777 had landed with 250+ passengers!very small tv screens giving boarding times two only in the departure lounge and not facing the seating area either of the and the PA announcements inaudible due to the tin shed that this airport is it echoes so much it just all gets into a jumble mess ,watch out for the taxis too, ours took the slow road to doncaster even though the new bypass has been opened months (no tip given) the bus service around 1 per hour is totality in adequate, £15+ for a taxi into town around £3.90 on the bus when there is one!
To cope for lack of space for passport checks additional cattle pens have been built outside ready for winter!!!!
