If The Car Becomes Reliable After Changing Electri

If the car becomes reliable after changing electrical parts at 75k kms, just keep it for another 50 kms at least. don't waste money to upgrade to the current (2008) model.

In general a great car if your not a sales rep.

Not many fuel consumption a little heavy around town but so what more fun than a boring family saloon.

Hhave done 47K Kms in 3.5 years. The Audi A4 3.0 Quattro is a competent work horse with a low excitement factor. 0-100 KPH takes nearly 9 seconds with sluggish initial spurt and it's noisy at low speeds.

I have had my Audi A4 Quattro for a year now, and it is a blast! It goes zero to 60 MPH in 6.6 seconds, and it cruises at 140 MPH nicely.

Having Driven About 25,000 Miles Over 4 Years I've

Having driven about 25,000 miles over 4 years I've become very comfortable with my A4 (3.0 Quattro Sport). Its behaviour is predictable and impeccable on all but the bumpiest surfaces. Traction is great, and its ability to pull out of corners is first class. Unfortunately, the Quattro four wheel drive and ESP software are a little bit too risk averse so enjoying understeer is almost always out of the question. Still, the flip side of this is that you have more confidence to push the car towards its limits.

The interior of the car is to the highest standard I've seen in a mass produced car. The use of aluminium and touches of chrome (the four circles on the steering wheel, the door handles) is tasteful. Well taken care of, it doesn't really wear down much either, and, best of all for the smokers out there, it doesn't seem to absorb any smoke. Mine still smells like a new car after 4 years of fairly extensive exposure!

Anyway, there are a few bad points, although I'm loathe to admit it. The electrics seem to be in a semi-permanent state of confusion. I drive with lights on all the time, and I seem to have to change at least one bulb every month. Sometimes the warning signal on the dash goes on when the lights are all still functioning fine. There's not really enough space to stash your belongings around the driver's seat, although what space there is has been very well thought through. There's only one cup holder which is a bit annoying sometimes, and if I was the designer, I'd probably have made it possible to flatten the rear seats to make the boot deeper.

But the biggest complaint I have is with the brakes, which fade very quickly and start whistling in that way that makes you almost embarrassed to be associated with your car. Audi says it's because of dust caught between the disc and the brake pad (or something like that) but I can't believe this is right, since it always seems to happen when the brakes are hot, not dirty. Anyway, I'm changing over to either Brembo or Porsche 993 brakes. AMD, who are doing the fitting, are really nice people and offered me lots of advice on what to do.

Another very serious gripe that I have is with the maintenance costs associated with getting repairs done at Audi service centres. I feel robbed every time I go, but I've learnt how, as a result to do all the basic things (oil, filter, light bulbs) myself.

But I should say that I wouldn't change my car for anything else (except an RS4 or a 911, obviously).

Cripes, another half decade has passed and here I am, updating my review again. The car has become a bit of a luxury item to be honest. I don't manage to get it on the road more than twice or three times a month which is sad.

But the car itself is still a gem. What I've realised is that as I've gotten older and become a more conservative driver, my perception of the car has changed too. No longer does the speed and grippiness fascinate me. Instead it's things like how well insulated the car is, both from noise and the cold. It's how high quality the thud of the doors sounds, how the boot is big enough for two prams and the back for two car seats (and a squashed mini-adult in the middle), all the safety paraphernalia.

Wow, I'm so middle aged.

Speaking of middle aged, for a 15 year old car, this A4 is just so solid. Haven't had an unplanned service since the last review (albeit I'm putting relatively few miles on the clock), the engine's still creamy, the brakes and tyres are relatively unworn, the interior looks almost like it did on day one, notwithstanding the area around the keyhole - no idea why they'd make part of the car that's so susceptible to knocks out of such a scratchable material.

Maybe see you again in another 5 years.

i must say, i'm surprised and not a little gratified to find that people *do* read these kinds of posts.

so i thought i might re-update the review:

i figured out the problem with the electrics: the clever people in the local garage thought the car used 2 pin bulbs instead of 1 pin bulbs (or vice versa, can't remember) but anyway, now that's not happening any more, the electrics are fine.

i asked if anyone knew anything about aftermarket superchargers. i now know what i needed to know, which is that they are expensive, pointless affairs. i spent an embarrassing amount fitting a g3 supercharger that was such a kill-joy (ironically) that i had it removed within 2 weeks.

on the other hand, i do have two recommendations, especially for the other reviewers who were quoting 0-60 in 9-odd seconds: first, try a milltek exhaust. the low and mid range torque gains are incredible. second, use shell optimax. don't know why but it really gets the best out of the engine. my last timed sprint covered 0-60 in 5.8 seconds in less than optimal conditions and i can't think of anything else that'd make the difference.

finally, having found myself in temporary possession of an rs4 last year, i'd also like to revise the last sentence in my original review. no matter how incredible it feels hear a v8 rumble at idle or shriek at 8000 rpm, the amount of attention it attracted wasn't something i was prepared for and i hated it.

i'm an A4 and i invented discreet thrills.

yes, people really do read this page. I'm purchasing a 2002 a4 3.0 next week and am researching as much as i can. bunnytails.

By way of an update, I've got the 993 Turbo brakes, and they have changed the car. There is no whistle, no fade, less erratic pedal travel and more progressive pitch under heavy braking. They weren't cheap, but frankly and in a nutshell, if you like to drive, and you have an A4 (or by all accounts, most VAG models), uprate the brakes but don't get yellow or red calipers. They ruin the respectability of the car.

And finally, I wonder whether (a) anyone reads this page, and (b) anyone has any experience of aftermarket superchargers?

I Have Now Done 16,000 Miles In My Audi A4 3.0 Qua

I have now done 16,000 miles in my Audi A4 3.0 Quattro, and 18 months and I am satisfied overall but for small problems. On reversing into my drive I take the car out of gear - it is a manual - yet the reversing lights stay on ( inevitably overnight )and there is no light in the key fob wheras even my Ford Mondeo key has one!

If You Are Looking For A Rocket In A Four Door Her

If you are looking for a rocket in a four door here it is. With the optional 3.0 this Audi is extremely fast for a little sedan. There have been no warranty needs in the first ten thousand miles.
