This is a great, little site. I have been a member for a few years now and have made lots of friends. At one time their were frequent meet ups and I certainly made life long friends with many.

The forums are lovely. althoiugh you will occasionally have a troll come along to try to ruin it, with multiple profiles, all giving the same style of long winded comment. It is however very easy to block them, so that you do not see their postings. Other than that it has been great fun. It is also an extremely easy site to navigate and everything very straightforward. And the best thing of all is that this is a free site. Wpould definitely not hesitate to recommend it. Do give it a go.

I signed up to Midsummer's Eve one Friday afternoon. I wrote my profile and uploaded three photos. They weren't made visible as they were 'being reviewed' but the site said this usually takes 2 hours.

Saturday afternoon and they are still 'under review'. I message customer services who say they will get back to me rapidly in their automated reply.

Sunday, I decide to take the risk of sending messages without a profile pic. I explain in the text that my photos are 'under review'. I search within 30 miles of my address and in the end send out conversation starters to nearly 30 women.

Monday late evening - my photos are still 'under review', no reply from customer services and not a single woman has opened any of my messages. Is this dating site real? Clearly there is nobody reviewing photos, nobody answering customer messages and the profiles of other users appear to be dormant.

Midsummer's Eve has been a waste of time. I will try elsewhere.

This site seems to be very friendly and laid back but the conversations area causes some problems.

There are a number of people that have been on the site for many years and it is quite common for them to gang up on newcomers if their face doesnt fit for some reason. New people are often accused of being trolls or old banned members returning with a new id. This appears to be prejudice rather than based upon any fact. If you hold a similar opinion to an old, banned member then they may claim you are this old member when you aren't. if you use more than one pc or location then you may be banned as your ip will alter.

The site owner has tried to stop this by instigating a number of rules about behavior. However, he has favourites that can do no wrong and he listens to their views when deciding who should stay.

If you are banned then you are unable to log in. You cannot contact anyone or answer them. You simply 'disappear' as far as the people on the site know. This has caused some people to adopt a new id out of (presumably) frustration. You may have been in the middle of starting a relationship with another person and simply disappear if you don't do this.

The claims to ban very few people but what he actually does instead is remove their access to the conversation's area and stop their access to private messages. From a social point of view this is worse as it then appears that you have lost interest in one or more people when you haven't. Consequently, some people have multiple nicks to prevent this from happening. If you put any personal contact details on your profile they are removed by admin which again encourages people to have addition id to prevent this cutting off from people.

One can pay a fee to increase one's facilities on the site. However, the conversations area is classed as free to all. This means that access may be removed despite you paying for full access. Your membership is not taken away but as messaging and conversations are removed the site then becomes virtually useless. No refund of fees is given. As those removed facilities are 'free' you cannot claim back your payment which may have been for a yearly or lifetime membership.

I won't be renewing my paid subscription.

I find it difficult to write an objective review on Midsummers Eve.

I was a non paying member of it for over a year, met the love of my life on it, find most of its users very pleasent - and some very intelligent. Yet I have taken the decision not to have any further dealings with it.

Despite many of its members being on benefits, probably for very genuine and good reasons, there are frequent threads chastising 'benefit scroungers'. Right wing views seems to dominate. Anyone on the left expressing thoughtful views is quickly shot down and seems to disappear to some sort of cyber golag.

My personal difficulties with the site centered on the number of smutty threads comming from a few readily identifiable individuals. I am not a prude,have no strong religious belifes and am not a 'family values' crusader, but I found them quite offensive, distasteful, and something that should not have been allowed on its open forum (MSE has a number of 'closed' forums where this sort of filth could have been housed) - and posted my views on the site in no uncertain terms, critical both of the lowlife posters and MSE admin for not exercing greater responsibility. Judging from the expressions of support I got from many members, I was not alone in my opinions.

Nevertheless, after about a day of being on the board, my messages were removed and I received two emails from the sites admin informing me that this was because they were 'unfriendly'and advising me to read their rules or risk lossing posting rights. I have not done done so - but it would seem that there is no rule against posting degrading and offesive smut - so far as I am aware the thread is still there.

Why? Money? I did not pay for MSE services. I suspect the smut writers did. Cannot upset the paying members can we?

Since I am not prepared to heed admins advice,I have decided to sling my hook.

Yes midsummer's eve dating site forum is like being back at junior school,"Reason" Why, admin now seem to remove posts faster than you can log on to the internet.you can be banned now for wiping your nose,"or" so it now seems,Go join and look in site matters,The site is losing members by the dozen,most are unhappy about the non freedom of speech anymore.When you get a warning from admin,it's almost like being written by your headmaster,Pathetic i know,but its now become reality.gone is the once vibrant site it once was,I would advise no one to pay anything for this site,rumours are abound that it will close soon.

Very, very, very, very poor.

I was a member for almost two years. I was briefly single and went on several dates which were ok ;- but I would not recommend mse as a quality dating site to anyone.

I spent far more time on the conversation threads and most of the people I interacted with were and are nice people.

Having said that ;- I, too, have recently been banned from conversations as I tend to speak my mind and admin. seem to struggle with this concept ;- that people are individuals and not the collective mass they hope to squeeze money from.

I was banned because my 'crime' was that I responded in kind to a member who attempted to intimidate me. I received a ban whilst this person was allowed to continue posting their comments. Go figure.

The general feel is that mse has already navigated its way through its 'golden era', judging by comments from long-standing members ;- its radio 2 awards being a distant memory.

The 'dating' site continues chugging along in the hope that past glories can be resurrected. Sure ;- some of the conversations can be quite interesting and debatable, etc. but the flipside are the mind-numbingly mundane threads that are opened by some members clearly in need of a personality ?

Admin. tend to dish out banning orders like confetti, because mse's little roadshow must go on. Most of the interesting characters have either left of their own free will or been bannned for various reasons. Some remain, but the numbers are dwindling.

There is also a right-wing 'middle-England' contingent. ( thankfully in the minority ). With mse its simple ;- like some of the people on there. Join if you wish to ;- dont if you dont.
