Purchased Sp 101 A Few Years Back As I Needed To S
Purchased Sp 101 a few years back as I needed to set-up a second-room budget system but did want something half-decent. Have to say, this is a quality hi-fi amplifier and not some cheaply-badged pretend. Given its' price, build quality is superb (brushed aluminium), as is the overall sound quality - not the last word in high end audio reproduction but most people will not be disappointed. Pretty clear, faithful audio reproduction that is excellent with all sources. Doesn't sound harsh when pushed hard, although probably best-suited to small/medium sized rooms. Drives my faithful KEFs very well indeed. Plenty of bass, good clear mid-range and ample highs (although some extreme detail will be missing when compared to more expensive rivals...costing considerably more!). Excellent array of input options, including phono with ground for your old turntable. Only a single set of speakers can be connected, albeit via proper binding posts to accept decent guague speaker wire. Nice-sized remote supplied, that can control AS CD/DVD/DAB models also - very handy! Decided to purchase another amplifier for a different room but was sent a Sp 103. Whilst almost visually and technically identical, I can't help but feel the 101 outperforms the 103, with a warmer, richer & more powerful sound. Strange but true...clearly, slightly different components used in the newer model.
