Cambridge Audio A1

I recently purchased the amplifier to power my kef c30's temporarily although I think I'll be sticking with it as it performs very well providing reasonably clear sound at a very reasonable price of £30!

I have an A1 v3 powering a pair of Tannoy Venus MKII's. Initially I was intending on upgrading the amp, but I have found no need to do that. Only downside I have is lots of my musician friends insist on testing their demo CD's out on my system. =)

For the price, it dont get much better than this. Put a good signal in and you will get Hi-Fi, (dont confuse Hi-Fi with sterio). I use mine with my Thorens TD 160 turntable and wharfdale Lintons for pesonal use (Hi-Fi),and for parties and barbiques i plug into my laptop so people can use the mouse to clic on the track they want, (sterio).My cambridge is 9 years old and works perfectly.Like many other people i got mine from Richer Sounds.

It's not very often these days you come across a budget product where the quality surpasses the price and by a long way the Cambridge Audio A1 amplifier does just that.

Build quality is supperb, funcionality is basic but when it comes to amplifiers as any Audiofile buff will tell you less is MORE.

Sound quality for the money is amazing, sure there are better sounding amps out there but with a price tag to match.

Marry this amp up with some nice bookshelf speakers of a similar price such as Gale speakers and you'll be chuffed to bits.

This isn't the best selling amplifier for no reason!

The Cambridge Audio A1 has a great sound and great little amp.

The Cambridge Audio A1 is a perfect amp for average living room. Nice warm sound, yet still able to produce require power to really enjoy your music.Without hesitation I can recommend anyone this Great Amplifier

This is a great amp for the money! When paired with a decent set of similarly priced speakers, (in my case Eltax monitor 3's), the sound is punchy, clear and detailed. Despite it's modest power rating. It can play at high volume effortlessly and never sounds stretched in a well set up system. Took it round with me for 4 years at uni, took a bit of abuse, even used it to amp an electric guitar for a while and it's never once lost any sparkle to the sound. It's now with my brother as he starts uni and still going strong! Perhaps this is why it's held it's price for so many years. Thinking bout getting another one to power a secondary system at home.

I've been with Amazon DVD rental for over a year, and I have found the service to be pretty good, especially getting (most) new releases, and at least you get some indication of how long the wait is. I find Amazon much easier to browse for a DVD than other sites. I have had a few unplayable disks, but (TIP) it is easily solved by using car polish and a soft cloth, and vigorous rubbing from the centre to the edge of the disk over the scratch.

The main problem with the Amazon service is the fact that if you rent a film that is a 2 disc set you are bound to rent both discs which counts as two rentals against your monthly 6. As far as I know other rental companies (certainly one's I've looked at) give you the choice of renting either disc 1 or 2 so if you're not an extras fan like myself you don't "waste" any of your 6 monthly rentals. This in itself was enough to put me off of trying this service but others may disagree. On the plus side I've always found Amazon to be excellent in terms of choice, customer service and delivery times. If they're willing to change their policy on 2 disc sets I would sign with them in a flash!
