Finally I Picked This Diamond Up!

I'm using amp CA Azur 640 along with CA CD player. I was bringing my amp to the store I visited, as I know that The best rating speaker which Recommend by People & magazine will not always be the best selection to my audio stereo set.

At that time II had the list of speaker that I'd like to buy( from top to bottom )they were:

1.EPOS M5i

2.MA BX2

3.QUAD 11 L2

4.Q accoustic 2020i

I brought with me 2 cd music : Jazz instrument & Jazz with vocal

Note:

Time came for the audition, please forgive my bad English. : )

No.4.I didn't find this Q2020 suite my ears expectation & less base production,

No.2 the the Item was out of stock/ no chance to know how it sounds.

No.1 It sang so well & I felt this is the type of music I need: cryspy, clear mid high, open treble, but

I felt the high sound is significantly too much pairing with my amp.

No.3 The Shop had demo unit only the bigger type : 12 L2 , so I auditioned this.

when I listened the Jazz Instrument ,...wow...I felt that this was the one I 've ever dreamt off.

The price also the top among the list.. All instruments from the music were sounded very clear and can feel the base more

compare to Epos. As the mid woofer of this 12L2 consider more bigger ,Sound stage felt wider as well.

I changed the music to Jazz with vocal $ asked the shop owner to bring me the new black glossy Quad( I was about to end the audition ).

Then this happened: After minutes of listening more to this Quad, I felt the sound become some how to strong to my ears &

I felt comfortable no more. Eventhough the qty of base was the one I looked for, but to my further notice, the punch wasn't that clear. That already late afternoon & inside the store became more shoppers awaits to have an audition too.

I felt shame when I asked the seller to provide me with one more selection of speaker & I asked for wharfedale,

There were coincidently one more Wharfedale 9.1 anniversary left, as they actually already very rare due to old type.

You guess what??? Finally I picked this up .

I felt they could deliver the sound that I would like to hear: Very excellent & well ballanced mid& high.

The combination of my cambride Audio amp with Wharfedale at last matched. This tyniest speaker amazingly has a good base too!

nothing's perfect, Some music with particular base ,will sound a little bit weird, I think due to size of mid cone.

Also The openness of 9.1 can't catch either the M5i & 12L2. As if they were have a thin membran covering the sound.

I hope when it meet the breaking in time, It will be better.

nevertheless The choice has to be made.

I choosed Wharfedale 9.1 anniversary as they were sounding do good & the most match pairing to my amp.

And fortunately the cheaper among the rivals.

I had a good listening of how good & musical Quad 12L2, But I realize maybe they had bigger mid woofer & weren't match to my amp. If they had driven with more powerfull amp,I bet the case will be different.

Note: when audition several selection of most wanted speaker , I recommend to bring your amp & CD music of your preference .

These without doubts will contribute significantly in judging the selection.

Awsome Speakers!!!

Well what can I say........I have never owned a pair of quality speakers before, I have always had cheaper equipment. After a lot of time researching speakers and amps I went for the Wharfdale Diamond 9.1's all black with a Denon DM37 unit and I was not to be dissapointed. I had the opportunity to buy a pair of £400 Mission speakers which sounded fantastic in the demo room but once I heard the 9.1s I was sold. For £199 the sound quality was pretty much the same as the more expensive Missions and although I am a novice in this field I can appreciate good sound quality.

Coupled with good quality cable I was hearing sounds from CD's I have owned for years that I have never heard before. These speakers sound good with a varied range of music, but they really stand out with accoustic / Folk. Dont get me wrong, it you are into any other kind of music they will sound awsome too.

All I can suggest it try these out....sit down and shut your eyes and turn up the volume to your favorite tracks and you will see what I mean.

Prefer The 8.1 Model

These make good studio monitors, but in comparison to the Diamond 8.1s I've used for a couple of years they lack depth and tone. In my room the 8.1s have a far superior bass response without the boominess I get from the 9.1s. Having said that, maybe it's just me, as most of my colleagues seem to think they're better. Hear them before you buy them, that's all I'm saying.

Diamond 9.1 Verses Tannoy Mercury M1

There is a lot of high praise for these speakers and they won many awards in the hifi press a few years back. Similarly the same sort of praise is levelled at the almost exact same sized Tannoy Mercury M1. However, I think there is no better way to judge whether anything is as good as they say until you actually listen yourself. I decided I would try them both in comparison to each other and my very large Wharfedale Airedale SP monitors. The Airedales are massive beasts over a meter tall and half a meter square with a measured response from 28Hz to 22kHz and they sound spectacular.

The first thing that is overwhelming obvious with small speakers is the lack of any deep bass response. Secondly and, in my view, more important is that both the Tannoy M1 and the Diamond 9.1 have a resonance from the enclosures at around 125Hz This is, to my ear, most annoying and distracting especially when listening to acoustic pieces. The Mercury boxes perform worst here, driving me almost to the point of despair at times. If you use a notch frequency filter/equaliser this can be filtered out but it's a lot of trouble and the level of filtering needs to be tweaked for each different piece of music for best results.

The 9.1 units are front ported whereas the Tannoys' port is in the rear. This makes room placement much easier with the Wharfedales. There is a distinct lack of lower bass from the Tannoys. The Wharfedales have a little bit more oomph and sound a little better low down.

The high end response is also different by orders of magnitude. The M1s are sharper and clearer. The 9.1 are less pronounced and some detail is 'lost' however they are much easier to listen to for long periods with no listening fatigue.

In the end you pay your money and make your own choice. I can’t recommend either speaker because of the resonance problem but if I had to choose between the two, my money would go on the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1

Recently Bought Diamond 9.1's At £100.

Recently bought Diamond 9.1's at £100.

They look good, seem well made and sound great. I use a Cambridge Audio 640c cd Player and NAD C340 amp and I am more than happy with the sound.

After a bit of 'running in' the sound is detailed, excellent breadth and all but the deepest base is well handled.

At this sort of money they are an absolute bargain.

Good Value For Money. Best Thing Of This Wharfdale

Good value for money. Best thing of this Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 speakers is stereo image and clear crisp sound. Also has some disadvantages. The sound is quite dark and need amplifier with a lighter sound. I have connected this speakers with NAD C 352, but i am not so happy with it. Yes configuration has good crisp sound, but something in overal sound is missing. I dont know, the sound is so "closed", nothing "live" in it. Maybe becouse of amplifier. Is very neutral sounding amp. In my opinion this combination with this amplifier is not so good. Match only in god crisp, clear soun and in amazing stereo image. But overal for average user will this speakers or even combination with newest NAD model good choise. Especially for the money.

These Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 Speakers Have Bought M

These Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 speakers have bought my system to life, and at such a good price!they give absolutely fantastic detail and clarity. The sound stage these produce hits you from the start, instruments sound defined and distinct.Vocals sound astonishing through these speakers beautifully reproduced and the tweeter seems very high quality for the price. The base produced by these small units is surprisingly full and deep. Its a good choice speaker for someone who listens to a wide range of music. These are the best purchase Ive made in a long time! The sound you get for the money is phenomenal! The Diamond 9.1s also look great and the build quality seems very good. With bi-wireable gold connections on the back and some good quality speaker cable and banana plugs these speakers have gone from strength to strengh. As a previous reviewer said, they've made me listen to my whole CD collection again. Im enjoying music more than I have done in years with these speakers. Wholly recommended!

The Wharfdale Diamonds Are So Great Sounding, I Ha

The Wharfdale Diamonds are so great sounding, I have listened my whole cd collection all over again, something I would never have done if I did'nt bought and coupled them yo my NAD L40. Match made in heaven!

They seem to like the NAD L40 !

The soundstage that they delivers at this price is simply astonishing. What I wanted, they deliverd. Space- no problem! You can put them close to a wall, or in a TV cabinet, and they just delivers! A slight toe-in is neccesary though. Musicality- no problem! I love David Gilmore' s music, and this combination complements it no end! Thanks Wharfdale and NAD for making music so enjoyable and affordable!
