I've Had The Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Since November

I've had the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 since November '06. For the first couple months I left it at stock speeds and was pleasantly surprised while re-encoding three different MP3s at maximum speed with 50% free CPU left. Fitting the processor wasn't completely straightforward, but once locked, the fan is very sturdy and not too loud.

The E6300 has been stable and reliable the whole time, and after a small hiccup with faulty RAM at the beginning, I've not had a single hardware crash for six months. Having been an AMD fan-boy for many years, taking the plunge to the C2D was a major change, one that I am glad for.

It's important to note that since January I've had the CPU overclocked from the stock speed of 1.86 GHz up to 2.10 GHz without so much as a degree of temperature rise and that I've had the thing at full load for over an hour with it barely batting an eyelid. This is a very sturdy chip and for people on a budget, I highly recommend it. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is that the fan has a somewhat fiddly system to lock it into place.

Totally agree with your comments on the processor. I build PCs for people and have always used AMDs. But, when I upgraded my PC recently I used the E6300 and it has been excellent in every way. I wouldn't say the fan is difficult to fit, it's certainly different, but once you understand how it clips in it's the most simple fan install I have ever known!
