Don't Ever Buy
I bought a Dane Elec 8GB capless flash drive and 8GB SD card at the store I work at because it was on sale. I went home and plugged in the flash drive and it was an automatic dud. The red lights flashed on it and it was only 130 degrees Fahrenheit. It, being capless and on sale, was primarily the only reason I got it. So I chopped up the flash drive with my axe. Now I have a half-assed SD card that I won't ever use.
Not only was the plastic super flimsy, it felt like a Barbie doll accessory.
Looking back, I can see why it was on sale for that little.
Most disappointing waste of $8.

Worked Until Stopped
Used it as a daily item in my life, whet everywhere and carried many files from computer to computer. Several files where backed up but not all when drive needed a scanning. About 3 months into use it frequently asked for scanning before even opening drive. When scanned all information was lost of course though had no way of saving prior to being asked to scan that day. Then the drive began to not reconize itself in my personal computer making work impossible. Though size and portablity were great.

Dane-elec Usb Drive Is A Dud
I bought 3 of these USB drives. After 3 months of very limited use I plugged USB drive #1 into my computer and got a message that it required formatting. So I tried again. That is I reloaded the data after formatting...same thing happened. I figured it to be a fluke since I've never had a USB drive loose data, so I gave #2 a try with the same results. I purchased the drives from Tiger Direct online and they will not even give me a store credit as it's now more than a month since the purchase. I'll give Dane-Elec a try for a refund but am doubtful that I'll have success. When I call the pre-recorded message states that they're having technical difficulties and asks that I try again later. I think they figure that I'll eventually give up trying.

Surprised By Quality:
I purchased this Dane Elec from the local London Drug electronics shop. The products that they sell are usually extremely reliable. The flash drive would not load on my Vista program. From the other reviews it is very fortunate that I had not loaded any information on it as it may not be retrievable. Is this the quality we can expect in the future. Plug and play is plug and play or use.
The body and retractibility of the flash drive is great. It looks good but that is a far as it goes. It would be great to have it replaced if not Dane Elec is getting the cash but not my business.

I Purchased An 8gb Dane Usb Drive From The Source
I purchased an 8GB Dane USB drive from The Source in Canada. It has repeatedly lost data and cannot be formatted correctly. Lost data is somehow changed to garbled file and directory names. This baby is going to have to be replaced.

I Finally Gave Up And Contacted Dane Elec In The N
I finally gave up and contacted Dane Elec in the Netherlands. They asked me to send the 8 GB stick to them for testing. For them it worked under Vista, but not under XP. Go figure.
They replaced the stick by another one from the same series and... lo and behold... that one does work on both XP and Vista.
So perhaps there was one production run that causes problems and later ones don't. Contact Dane Elec seems to be the best advise in case you have trouble with one of their sticks.
Service by them has been great.
