For an ISA MODEM, I was suprised how easy it was to get it working in both Win95 and Win98. Once I found the driver info, everything went smoothly, with automatic installation of the voice modem driver. AOL 5.0 on my 486/DX-66 with 16MB RAM recognized it as "generic Texas Instruments 56k".

To be honest, I have found smartlink modems to be horrid. Maybe it's a conflict with Windows XP, but evertime we go to use one they set up, but will not dial out. We have had nothing but problems with them.

The Smartlink 5634BTV 56K internal modem is solid for the price. Be realistic in speeds, the 100 + k some see is because of a driver flaw, not real speeds

I bought this for $30. It's a very good modem, the best I have used. If you find one and need a better 56k, get this one if you want a better internal modem. It's ISA, so if you have a newer motherboard with all PCI slots, don't bother. I point my finger at the Texas Instruments chipset on the modem. Modems with TI or Cirrus Logic chipsets are typically very good, and not expensive at all.
