Really Very Good Printer, And All-rounder Again Fr
Really very good printer, and all-rounder again from HP Picked this up for £100 new and looks a lot more expensive than this. Great that wireless is built in (remember you need a wireless router), and also very economical to run. On that note, pretty unfortunate that HP have started to follow Canon with the individual ink system (yellow, black, magenta, Cyan, etc) instead of one black and one colour. It seems HP have followed consumer feedback as consumers are apparently under the impression that individual inks are cheaper than the old "2 cartridge" system. I would suggest this printer to anyone, but HP have discontinued it now and the latest models are C7280 / C7380 (no fax and faster). If you do buy HP, remember to buy a USB cable.

When it works, the quality is impressive - but 'when it works' isn't what i want from a printer.

Picked this up around a year ago for £150 and have been using it in earnest ever since. Brilliant piece of kit for the monet with fabulous prints from the six seperate cartridges and HP do a replacement cartridge pack for about £40 that includes all cartridges and loads of photo paper. Ink seems to last well and the printer has been completely reliable since installation.
Being networked, all pcs in my house can access it separately (including for scanning, etc), although it does seem to take ages to install with a huge installation file. It does have built in wireless, although I've not used it as I have my own access point. It does not come with Bluetooth as standard, but I picked up the HP dongle for £6 from PC World and it works a treat. My phone (3.2MP Nokia N75) linked seamlessly and it's brilliant getting back from hols or whatever and just printing out pics straight from the phone. Me and mates had a great time arriving back from Glastonbury and just printing out random pics from all our phones!
Faxing works well, autofeed is reliable, and it's handy having one-button colour and b&w photocopy. Supplied software is ok and performs all the usual functions, but sems to have problems scanning multiple sheets to TIFF. The only other problem I've had is that the simple hinge mechanism means it's difficult to scan thick media such as books.
Other than that, a highly recommended printer.

I Bought This Hp Photosmart C6180 Printer Because
I bought this HP Photosmart C6180 printer because its compatable with Windows XP64 and Linux, Also we have three pc's in our house and thought it would be good to have a network printer. I was also impressed that it was supposed to be able to connect to my Nokia Communicator phone via Bluetooth.
This printer has Connectors for USB, Wired and Wireless Networking. It talks a lot about Bluetooth in the software and on the setup display, but I assume I've got to shell out £5 on ebay for a dongle. It miffs me a bit after spending £230 and for the pence it would have cost HP to include one......well!
Upon opening the box and assembling the machine, I was impressed by both the looks and the build quality. Then the disappointments started. My first problem was there are no drivers for XP64 on the CD. No problem I thought, I'll download them. For some reason HP's website will not allow me to download using either XP64 or Linux.
Eventually I managed to get my drivers. Unfortuanately only drivers. The HP software doesn't work with XP64bit either.
Setting up networking was easy on Windows and even easier on Linux thanks to Mandrake having everything needed. God only knows what nightmares await for Vista users.
Print Quality is Exceptional. The Photo printer is also Exceptional and easy to use. The Sheetfeeder is handy for document scans and faxing in both B/W and Colour (providing there's a colour fax the other end).
I decided to print out a 100 page pdf to try it out. Only my Nokia Manual (mostly print, very few pictures) It took over half an hour to print. HP claim 32 pages per minute!!! I can only assume they are blank pages. It stops every 10 minutes to clean itself so I'm expecting heavy ink usage. Noticing the black cartridge ink level is already at 75% after printing 120 pages I ordered a replacement set of six cartridges at £47.
The printer has some very nice features and I love the way everything is accessible from the front so it can be pushed right back to the wall. It certainly saves space.
After all that hassle though, its got some very nice features, and the print quality is the best I've ever seen.
Would I purchase it now, after using it? No!
I have had many woes using the HP suite. It refuses to load in XP64 and causes even more torment when run in Vista 64bit and copying multiple sheets, but although the HP Photosmart program doesn't work well with either the drivers for the printer do. My way around this problem is to use Microsofts Fax and Scan program which works very well.
I have Windows XP Prof and a HP PhotosmartC6180... I'm very happy with the printer.. I can scan, fax, etc, directly from the printer controls. Impressed with the description of the Windows XP64, I bought the software. Installed the XP64 and could not install the HP software... not compatible with XP64... I've heard there are drivers for the HP to work with the XP64... who can help me with these drivers?? Really would appreciate any help.
After writing the above review and now having used the printer for a month, I have to retract my last statement from the review ie.."would I purchase it now ..etc". My answer now is a big YES.
Also, the black cartridge I spoke of, went on to last for over 1600 sheets of text, which is very good from my past experiences. I haven't changed the colour cartridges to date, which still show half full after printing off 12 A4 Colour Photographs, so it's better than my old Epson CX5200.
It is still very slow, but good things come to those who wait, and one shouldn't rush quality.
