Fantastic Long Lasting Printer
I bought one of these so long ago I can't be sure just long, must be at least 6 years & its still going strong, unlike the Epson's I used to buy that never seemed to last more than a couple of years (its reported Epson's now have a built in termination period!).
The printer has never had problems with streaking, when a ink tank runs low (it has 6 separate tanks) it warns you but you can ignore till it tells you its run out, which you can also ignore, though that ink usually stops working within a couple of pages. I did leave it with an empty tank for about 6 months once, on finally replacing it that colour still didn't work, BUT after just leaving it like that for a few weeks it started again, working perfectly once more.
Print quality is excellent & colours on photo paper are colour fast, I`ve never had one fade.
The Canon Pixma iP6600D printer is compatible with Windows, Linux & Mac, though the Linux driver does not allow the maintenance options on Windows it does have some improvements, such as it prints grey scales with just the black ink, strangely Windows prints them with the colour inks!.
Ink: I`ve always used cheaper alternative inks in preference to Canon originals as the Canon's are much too expensive (as seems to be normal for manufacture named inks)I find I can buy a complete set of alternative ink tanks for around half the cost of a single Canon original ink tank. I`ve never had any issues using these alternative inks with my Canon.
If I ever buy another printer it will be another Canon.

After More Then 2 Years, And More Cartridge Change
After more then 2 years, and more cartridge changes that I am willing to admit to, my Epson R200 finally gave up the ghost. When shopping for a new printer my primary concern was quality and value for money. I finally opted for the Canon Pixma iP6600D, and have not looked back. The print quality is superb, even on cheap A4 'rag', but on any type of photo media it is faultless. I was also impressed with the speed at which it prints, both low quality draft text, right through to full A4 borderless photo prints. I would recommend this printer to anybody. I got mine from PC World for under £170. Bargain!
