I Used To Use Registry Mechanic 5 And It Worked Fi

I used to use Registry Mechanic 5 and it worked fine. I have no idea if it helped speed up my system but it didn't seem to hurt it. Then I changed PCs and went from Windows XP to Vista (Ultimate). Version 6 was marketed with language basically saying it would work in Vista, but was not designed for it, so I decided not to take any chances. Finally Version 7 came out (long after Windows Vista) listing Vista as totally OK. After paying for version 5, the upgrade cost and now an annual fee seemed a bit greedy, so I downloaded the sample version (which was supposed to be limited to one part of the registry) and put in my license number and went throug a scan and it found about 700 errors. So I told it to fix the errors and everything was OK. Then the next day the PC still booted fine, but about 15 minutes later it crashed. I was able to get into Windows in safe mode, but not regular. I restored to three earlier restore points and none would work. Finally I gave up and got some good tech service (from HP) where I had to take off all peripherals, re-boot and reinstall them one by one, and reset the BIOS settings to their original and that did solve the problem (created a couple of minor ones, but easy to fix). So I can't be sure it was the Registry Mechanic that caused the hard-to-fix crashing but I had made no other recent system changes so I have to think it was.
