No Support

I've found using Tas First Books for my husband's business quite good but there's absolutely no support unless one wants to pay through the nose. I just tried to phone their Dublin headquarters for help (on problems reconciling a few transactions before I do end-of-year reports) but there is none. As nice it is to be able to generate reports and such, some times I think we'd be better off with an old fashioned black 'n' red ledger system! So, unless you want to spend loads of money on a support package, you'd better be able to fix Tas bookkeeping puzzles on your own.

Given My Phobia About Double-entry Bookkeeping, I

Given my phobia about double-entry bookkeeping, I was pleasantly surprised to find it very useable - but had to get advice from accountant on initial setup.

Once set up, I found it to be almost idiot-proof, allowing errors to be correct easily.

I would like to upgrade to get extra features, but refuse to do so (no try before you buy option, or manual download) and don't see why I should have to pay for support.

As Basic version is free, I can't really complain - its well worth a try for most people.

They Obviously Think That You'll Be So Impressed W

They obviously think that you'll be so impressed with Basics that you'll upgrade when the time comes. Well, since they don't give any support for their unintelligible instructions, that's an idle assumption!

They Charge Each Year For Support As Far As I Am C

They charge each year for support as far as I am concerned. So even if there is a fault with their product I have to pay them to find out how to fix it and it isn't a nominal fee it's almost the price of the product again each year for me!

Good but just hope you don't have a problem with it after year one as you are on your own if you don't pay their support fee it seems. Therefore I do not recommend TAS Books Basic.

I Have Used Quicken For 10 Years Without A Problem

I have used Quicken for 10 years without a problem but sadly it is no longer available for VISTA. So I thought I would go to the professionals and invest in this package (TAS Books 1). Lots of hassle with TAS supplying two copies and 4 months before finally getting a refund in my opinion. The data entry is difficult for me and reporting is too in my opinion. Admittedly I have had no specific training on the package but I think I'm pretty intelligent and can sort most things, but this software takes the biscuit for me personally.

I note you were happy with Q-books before but ceased to use as not compatible with Vista.

This was certainly the case with the 2006 edition, but the 2008 versions currently availabe are Vista compatable - so if you would still prefer to switch back - worth looking at.

Having said thet check what is available on each version of the program as no mulit currency is available on 2008 version at all, pending 2009 release. Plus facilities that were available on QB Pro before are now only available on QB premier so unless you go for Premier, ensure what you actually require is still there in Pro - eg Pro now has no sales order processing etc.

Tas Books Basic Is Good Value For Money. I Have Us

TAS Books Basic is good value for money. I have used various versions of Sage & TAS over the years, and they are all have irritating quirks, especially the cheaper ones.

For a very small company it is fine.
