I Gave This Headset A Poor Rating Because Of Fit A
I gave this headset a poor rating because of fit and comfort. The Sound is good, but if the headset cannot sit on your ear for more than 10 minutes becuase it hurts and weighs too much, it defeats the purpose.
If you cant wear the headset, then the sound quality doesnt mean anything.
I have owned the cardo scalla 500, motorola hs850, and motorola hs805, and all those headsets were comfortable.
Hope this helps. There are many headsets out there, even from plantronics that are better than this. Think of this headset as BMW iDrive. Bad Production from a good company.

The Plantronics M3000 Sits Very Nicely On My Ear,
The Plantronics M3000 sits very nicely on my ear, and I have had no problems whatsoever with it.
I have only had this headset for a month or so, but have practically since dumped my handset to use my headset more often, the ease of use is amazing and the total lack of wires is amazing too. It's really good, and excellent value for money considering I got it off eBay for a fiver in the box!

Our Plantronics M3000 Bluetooth Headsets Have Had
Our Plantronics M3000 bluetooth headsets have had problems: poor sound, no sound, no volume adjustment, battery died, call button broken.
Of all the reviews I've read, yours is the only generally negative one.
The comments of no sound etc, seems to me that it either was misuse or misconfiguration, to have this product described as you did.
I hope others do not have the same problems.
For the record, I do not own this product.
