Nikon FG20

I had my FG-20 after i bought an FG camera off ebay. After i had put a Reala film through the FG-20 using a Nikkor 75-210mm f4-5.6 lens [again off ebay] i was surprised at the colour and detail that showed in the photographs. A reliable little camera. Now i have the MD-E motor drive [ebay] i can take my FG and FG-20 anywhere for good photos. I have digital equipment but i often prefer the basics that show i understand what i am doing in photography.

I owned one of these from 1985 to 1999 and travelled the world with it. I loved the quality of the standard NIKKOR lens. It finally died when I went overboard on a yacht in 1999. It is/was a brilliant camera to learn photography and was very very well built.

Excellent camera. Not a professional camera but capable of having professional results. The FG-20 with good lens provides the ideal combination of quality pictures and true pleasure in taking them. This is simply what photography is all about. It is strong, easy to use and the results are top. I have been using it for over 15 years. Thanks to it a key part of my life can be told through pictures. In spite of today's digital high-techs, I still use it with pleasure!!! Mine is not for sale and will never be! This is my 2nd Nikon FG-20, my first was stolen. I bought my first one with my first paycheck from my first job and used it for 9 years with an Albinar 50 mm. I JUST got my second one on eBay yesterday and it's perfect, I love it. It can be manual or auto and has every feature to experiment with photography.

I bought my Nikon FG20 35mm SLR camera in 1993 with my high school graduation loot, when it was already 11 years old. It has served me well all this time and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's durabilty has survived falling off rocks hiking in the mountains (I broke 3 fingers), hell once I fell off an ocean jetty (yes I stuck the camera in the air so it wouldn't get wet). I often take my FG20 with me to get shots that I couldn't otherwise get with my Mamiya Pro TL.

£150 with "50mm Nikkor A" back in 1985, was a good price. Mechanical shutter speed of 1/90th sec is handy for battery failures. My Nikon FG20 developed a problem with the electronic shutter whilst under warranty, I upgraded to a Nikon F301 after 9 months. Nice camera though, a good intro to Nikon cameras. I will get another one to use as a backup body.

Very compact, light, and fast enough for most action sports. Lenses are cheap. Good camera overall.

Good Manual camera with manual shutter option (1/90th sec) and analogue light meter. Manual wind on and manual focus makes it very accurate. Was expensive when I bought it. I would need an FM2 to replace it properly.
