The Nikon D3 Is In My Opinion The Ultimate Wedding

The Nikon D3 is in my opinion the ultimate wedding / press camera - until of course something better comes along!

Why invest so much hard-earned dosh in this camera when the D700 has the same sensor for less money?

Thats' easy - if you're an amateur then feel free to buy the D700 if you wish. There should be no bragging rights about this - it is lighter and cheaper and takes the same pictures, so it is a very sensible choice for many many people.

But if you are a pro then the double memory card slots on the D3 (both CF) make it for me. With the camera writing jpegs to one card, and raw files to the other you can feel safe that if you suffer a card failure you still have all the images on one card - it happens - it has happend to me and to almost everyone I know once or more. I use an 8gig card in slot 1 and a 4gig card in slot 2 good for over 300 images without changeing cards.

The slots also mean you can transfer files easily to two folders, process the jpegs then call up the nefs only if you need them for a colour correction which is sooo much better and easier than in a jpeg.

(I must confess however that I personally always use the raws anyway and Adobe Bridge)

Apart from that it has the usual "single digit" Nikon build quality, weather resistant seals etc and easily 2000 shots to a full battery on twin cards, and single servo auto focus.

I have tried the D700, but the controls do not fall easiily to hand like the D3 even with the extra battery pack / vertical grip - but that may be because I have always used the top range.

As for image quality - superb - excellent sharpness, contrast, colour and lack of noise making 3200 asa or even 6400 asa useable indoors without flash.

So there we have it - how odd this seems - a camera perfect for weddings and for press work - unheard of prior to this model.

Simply amazing

What Can I Say. Used It Now For About 6 Months And

What can I say. Used it now for about 6 months and it still amazes me with what it will capture and the image quality.

I use it for weddings and can comfortably shoot in most situations without flash (sometimes not allowed to use it like in churches). Even at ISO 3200 images are good enough to use at reasonable sizes. Colour rendition is spot on (and the envy of my Canon mate). Battery life is excellent too.

The Fx sensor does seem to attract dust though and the lack of a sensor cleaner is in my view a big oversight especially since the D300 and D700 both have one.

In my view possibly the best dSLR out there - certainly for the money.

The Nikon D3 Is The First Full-frame Digital Slr S

The Nikon D3 is the first full-frame digital SLR so you can see the full picture with each and every shot. It has a lot of features so the camera takes a lot of getting used to but the frames I have taken have been superb. As with all D-slr's this is very expensive so it is important to find the right one. I choose this not only on the great reviews I read about it but also on the the way it felt in my hands in the shop as it was not as clunky as others.
