Bought It To Replace A Different Make That Became

Bought it to replace a different make that became unusable when the Freeview system was updated. Has worked fairly well for a couple of years or more. Since the new allocation of channels came in it keeps losing all channels except 1 - 9. It is (was) used with a Philips flat screen TV, and the controls used to interfere with each other. I, too used to rate Philips products but not so much now. I will buy a different make - but what?

Thirty-three Quid In Tesco's - The Cheapest I Foun

Thirty-three quid in Tesco's - the cheapest I found anywhere PLUS the advantage of Tesco's no-quibble guarantee and returns policy.

This Philips DTR200 does the job and does it well. I feel the negative comments about it on this board result from aerial/signal strength problems as especially the BBC channels are reproduced perfectly. Channel 5 is problematical with occasional freezing and pixellation and little wonder with the signal strength indicator bars doing a waltz. As this digital TV lark is fairly new in my location it's probably still "running in".

I was astonished at how easy the DTR200 was to connect up and allow the automatic tuning to grab the full complement of channels. ANYONE should be able to instal this neat and attractive unit and I can't see even a much more expensive job giving any better performance as I feel it's that good and I feel five stars all round is justifiable. I know some other boxes have more "features" but this one has enough for me to justify five stars for Performance.

Highly recommended.

Subsequent experience with many other people's digiboxes of all makes and prices simply reinforces my original comments on aerials and transmitter location.

All academic now anyway as I have binned my TV owing to the nauseating garbage from ALL channels not to mention interminable repeats and I now get all the entertainment I want from the Internet.

Bertie

I always like to get to the bottom of things, so I did a little research and found that there is no technical reason at the transmitter end (a relay station in my case) for problems with channel 5. A slight repositioning of the aerial (a home-made broadband Vee made of cardboard and aluminium cooking foil and mounted in the loft) and a re-tune of the digibox solved the problem. Now channel 5 shows maximum signal strength like the other channels and has remained thus. I rest my case!

Personally Not Happy With The Philips Dtr200 Freev

Personally not happy with the Philips DTR200 freeview box. We bought it to upgrade from an old box we had that pixalated occasionally so the aerial and set-up were already proven. The Philips box was nowhere near as good as the old thing we had. Simply do not recommend it.

Philips Dtr200 Freeview Box Review - I Have Rated

Philips DTR200 Freeview box review - I have rated Philips products for 30 years, they have been very good, but no more, this is rubbish, and if this is the way forward then Philips should give it up and call it a day. I had my heart set on a Philips LCD TV but not now. I guess it will be Sony.

Locks Up Once Or Twice A Day And Doesn't Respond T

Locks up once or twice a day and doesn't respond to remote. Have to unplug to reset. Picture constantly disappears from screen taking 5 or so seconds to come back on. This is nothing to do with reception and happens sometimes once every 10 seconds making viewing impossible.Remote interferes with my TV, sometimes turning the TV on or off instead of the freeview.Sometimes distorts my CRT TV's picture with purple/blue/inverted magnetic artifacts in the corners and needs degaussing. This is a replacement for a previous faulty Philips freeview box (not same model) bought from ASDA. Two faulty boxes in a row is just taking the mick and from now on I will return goods and complain as much as it is possible to do. Companies should not be allowed to trade with products as flawed as this - let's take a look at somewhere like Japan for an idea on how to do things properly. This doesn't happen there and we should be embarrassed. Countries like Japan, having such an excellent attitude to quality control and service, just laugh at us when they hear about things like this.

First Box - After 24 Hours Started Freezing And Br

First box - after 24 hours started freezing and breaking up - 100% signal strength - took it back to Currys - told me there were no known problems!!! Gave me a second box - lasted 2 hours before breaking up with 100% signal strength. Changed from Sagem - good so far.
