Thomson Freeview Recorder
DO NOT believe all the above. These are great boxes and they are cheap!!! Mine has performed flawlessly for over six years. Not one problem!! However, it needs a good, clean digital signal, or you may get problems, as you will with ALL of this type of recorder. These Thomson boxes are dead cheap on e-bay and I recommend anyone to get one.

Lost All Recordings
I bought a Thomson DT16300 Top Up+Digital TV Recorder quite some time ago and have been quite happy with it, there were many occasions when it froze, missed recording programs and told me the programs had been corrupted, however this morning ALL my recordings have been wiped out; HOW could that have happened? I have not even seen them yet, also I can no longer record anything. I rang top up TV and they have told me that unless I pay from £7 to £12 a month subscription they cannot help me, as they are not responsible for the maintenance of my box (nice). So please tell me who can help me If no one can this must mean that this recorder is no good to me and will need to be thrown on the dump, if this is true why would I buy another of your products, if this is correct something I bought as a one off price has turned into an expensive item. They kept telling me to contact Thomson directly; well I think I have more chance of winning the lottery. I for one will no longer be buying THOMSON PRODUCTS of any kind.
Hi mate, this is the guaranteed fix for your issue, although nothing will return your recordings but this will fix your problem and only takes 5 mins.
**Unplug universal 230 volt cable from the back and power down any residual energy stored in the capacitor by holding the power button down for 20 seconds.
Now whilst keeping the power button pressed replace the power cable, at the very first blink of the orange LED release the power button and immediately enter this sequence on the units front keypad in quick succession
up ↑ down ↓ left ← right →
the unit will now format the hard drive indicated by activity from the orange and green LED's and takes approx 20-60 seconds depending on hard drive size.
these steps must be done in quick succession
keep trying until you get it correct.
perform channel scan afterwards as normal. jobs a gooden.
RECAP:
1, unplug and hold power button for 20 secs
2, replace power cable holding power button until 1st blink
3, immediately enter - up ↑ down ↓ left ← right → on box
4, wait for solid red LED and power on
5, perform channel scan until all 4 stages are complete*
*note: enter 'choose providers' menu option and switch off all of the TUTV services in the list unless you are a subscriber, this will make available approx 60% more record space on your HDD for 'freeview only' users.
**Hidden maintenance menu:**
Using remote enter - MENU/ HELP/ and type '1,3,9,7'
Enjoy.

I Agree That The Box Is "difficult" A Lot Of The T
I agree that the box is "DIFFICULT" a lot of the time,I have a tip for you to try-if your not subscribing to TOP UP TV- unfortunately you will lose all saved recordings.-When you scan for TV chanels, abort the scan just as it starts scanning for TOPUPTV services, then reformat the hard drive,my box has been virtually error free since I did this, about a year now,you will have to do this procedure after every software update-GOOD LUCK,

Two Words To Describe This Product 'absolute Rubbi
Two words to describe this product 'absolute rubbish'
Bad points were failed to find series links, missed the end off most programs even with the 5 minute before and after buffer and continually froze.
Really bad points stopped working after 5 months with corrupt HD and I lost all my programs.
An amazingly bad product that has caught so many of us by the cheap price dont be fooled by its garbage

When It's Working It Is Easy To Use I.e. Recording
When it's working it is easy to use i.e. recording etc a doddle. However ours Thomson DTI 6300-16 is only a few months old and has jammed with just the red light on - going on to a forum website helped as I unjammed it using technique that worked for another person. It constantly locks and needs re-booting and now we haven't had an EPG for three days. If we don't sort it out we may be forced to return it - which is a shame as we like the twin tuner facility which allows you to record two programmes at the same time.
Could Not Find Anything Good To Say About This Tho

Been Nothing But Dissapointed With This Thomson
Been nothing but dissapointed with this Thomson DTI 6300-16 machine, lock ups, failures and constant resets. Top up TV seems to be the ultimate cause, recent updates have finally killed the machine. I for one will never buy a top up TV type box again, and i would deter anyone else from doing so. contacted top up TV, they seemed aware of the problem but referred us to thomson. the machine is out of warantee period, and will buy something different next time.

I Have Purchased Two Of These Thomson Dti 6300-16
I have purchased two of these Thomson DTI 6300-16 and both have failed after a few months. Thomson do not seem to provide any sort of customer support
Ease of Use
The Thomson Dti 6300-16 Constantly Freezes, So You
The Thomson DTI 6300-16 constantly freezes, so you have to reset, losing any programmes you were recording.
Noisy - the fan blowing all the time - you can hear it over the tv.
Missed and corrupt recordings,
When fast forwarding and/or rewinding, it has a mind of it's own.
Series link started taping ALL the programmes - not just the link, but also on the +1 hr channels and the repeats (Top Gear on Dave.... say no more!) It then began to record as it should, only to revert back a month or so later.
Then, a fortnight after the warranty runs out...... it downloads a corrupt file, leaving you with no option but to format the hard drive (making you lose the hundred and odd episodes of Top Gear you had recorded, oh and probably a few things you really wanted to see).
