Cheap Clunky Rubbish - Avoid Like The Plague!
Wow! I used to own a Thompson Top-Up TV box, and didn't think it was possible to get a worse DVR - how wrong I was.
Just a small sample of the constant and never-ending problems (I'm sure I have missed a few)...
-Scheduled recordings missed
-Recordings incomplete (sometimes only a few seconds recorded)
-Fast forward or rewind of recordings sticks on, cannot stop until power cord removed
-Box freezes have to remove power cord to rectify
-Recordings skip and miss bits out on playback
-Recordings played back have gaps in the audio
-Very slow response time for all functions
-Unit will not switch on unless power cord is removed and replaced
-Takes 60-75 seconds for the unit to switch on
-Pressing the library or channel buttons takes 60+ seconds to respond
-choosing a channel to watch from the channel list takes 30+ seconds to respond
-choosing a recording to playback takes 60+ seconds to start
I reformatted the HDD and did a complete first time installation in the hopes that would cure the problem, but it made no difference.
Finally, the unit is now no longer switching on at all.
The unit finally died at 13 months after purchase (just after the guarantee runs out - big surprise there) ... BUT... I took it back to Argos and they gave me a full refund!! WooHoo! Yay! for Argos.
I have now given up on tv and gone back to listening to music and reading books. Bliss!
I also got this. But much cheaper from electronicsandmore.co.uk
I hear you brother, and I feel your pain.
Absolutely the ost useless item I've ever bought in my entire life. It randomly reboots itself records half a programme occasionly. Records the wrong channel. Continually freezes up. A pile of rubbish. DO NOT BUY ONE.
Thanks for the review! I am looking for DVRs.
Maybe you should do a positive review for Argos - that's impressive.
