Trailer Looks Much, Much Better Than Actual Gameplay
Dead Island released their trailer some months back and made both me and my bf want it. One evening whilst browsing on Steam he "accidentally" bought it so we spent the evening giving it a whirl.
It took some time to download but loaded fine and kicked off with a small cutscene, helpfully noted as a cutscene too I noted. Then you choose your character from a bunch depending on the kind of weapon you'd prefer fighting back zombies with. Once the game actually started we were pretty disapointed with the graphics. The rendering on people's faces wasn't that brilliant and the surrounding are not exactly mind blowing in the way that Heavy Rain was.
Gameplay can be a little confusing, you pick up quests by chatting to different characters and off you go across the resort. Weapons start to break down so you need to keep repairing or replacing with whatever you can find laying about.
So far it feels like GTA on foot with zombies. Nothing jumps out as being must play and after two hours we were done without that urge to play more.
If you can pick this up at a fairly good price and you like killing zombies then give it a go. We haven't given online co-op a go yet so perhaps it will start to improve them. For the moment all we appear to be doing is back and forth quests combined with plently of searching and looting.
