The White Horse, Blakeney

First time here and would not go back. The starters were good but the main courses were dreadful.Poorly presented, cold and tasteless. Mine had a sauce made of gravy granules.....and not even properly mixed in ones! We overheard that there were problems in the kitchen but no-one came up to us to explain or apologise for the situation. We were charged full price, despite having below average meals and service. Then my friend was dreadfully sick all night. When he rang the next morning to inform the restaurant, again, no apologies. In fact they could not have cared less. I wrote and complained and got no response. Don't waste your money.....go elsewhere

Looks good from outside and nice ambience with variety of eating areas, patio, gallery for parties and usual pub seating in brights & clean areas.

We booked a table for 4 at the White Horse for my father's 65th birthday, and we were extremely disappointed with the whole experience. Although we had booked the table for 8:15, and we could see empty tables in the restaurant, we were left waiting with no explanationfor 45 minutes, while another group who arrived much later were seated straight away. We eventually had to ask to be seated, and were taken through to table right next to a noisy and rowdy group, even though there was an empty table in a quieter and more pleasant spot. The menu looked appetizing enough, and my father and I both ordered Bream fillet with a smoked salmon slaw and a lemon butter sauce. This was at a cost of about £15 each. When it arrived the portion seemed small to me. It would have been funny if we weren't having to pay for it. There was a small amount of tasteless fish on a mound of coleslaw with the odd fleck of smoked salmon. There was a similarly miserly amount of sauce, but I could not detect any lemon in it. The whole thing was completely bland, and it would have been more accurate to describe the it as "coleslaw with bream fillet garnish". No side dishes are included in the price of the main course, so we had ordered 2 side dishes of oven dried tomato salad. These cost around £4 each, and there were just two small pieces of tomato in each large lettuce-filled bowl. My father complained to one of the waiters (we were served by three different people during the course of our meal) who responded by telling us that he'd tell the chef.

My mother had ordered a plaice fillet, which was alright but nothing special, and my brother ordered a (single) chicken fillet (also for nearly £15) which he was quite happy with, although he's not known for his discerning taste and has been known to have ketchup with his Sunday roast. The dessert was ok, but we were not offered any kind of sincere apology at any point, and no effort was made to make us feel happier about our meal. We were really made to feel like we were a nuisance from the moment we notified them of our arrival. We had mentioned while we were waiting to be seated that it was my father's 65th birthday, but the staff genuinely couldn't have cared less. It was such a shame, and such a waste of money. We don't mind paying more for good, skilfully cooked food, but that's not what we got for our money. We left disappointed and angry at the way we'd been treated, and we could all have cooked something much better ourselves.
