I've Always Found The Staff At Le Garrick Ok: It's
I've always found the staff at le Garrick OK: It's a well-run restaurant that has stood the test of time. There is live music on Saturday night, creates a nice atmos as they sometimes play on the pavement outside. Some tables are in bad positions and it is an oddly shaped building. If you don't like the food or the table you are first offered, then say so and give them a chance to put it right. I don't buy into that myth of the staff 'doing something' to your food. They are normally too busy to do so even if they wanted to.

Girlfriend & I Eat There On A Saturday Evening, It
Girlfriend & I eat there on a Saturday evening, it was fairly packed and we got a seat downstairs. The downstairs area created a great atmosphere & everything went to plan. Food was excellent, waitresses were excellent at aiding our selection and providing info about drinks etc
All round - lovely restaurant - would definitely eat there again.

Le Garrick - The Staff Were Offhand And The Food ,
le Garrick - The staff were offhand and the food ,when it eventually arrived, was cold. We would have sent it back had we not feared what the staff might add to it second time around. If only we'd read the earlier reviews... and the place looked so nice too :(
Tuesday 6th April 2004. We Were Directed To A Cram
Tuesday 6th April 2004. We were directed to a cramped corner table T The Garrick downstairs next to the gents toilets. No problem, the place was still cosy and romantic. After 20 minutes the menu arrived. A further 20 minutes passed and we began to look for the waitress whose eye we caught several times but for some reason (we still cannot think why even after much deliberation) continued to ignore us, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. After around 50 minutes the waitress finally approached the table and was obviously inconvenienced to have to take our order. No apology was offered for the delay and she proceeded to tell me again without out the slightest explanation that my food I was ordering 'might' take 30 minutes to prepare (a bit steep for a pork chop I thought).
At this point we told her we'd waited long enough and left.
Nothing special.
Sadly we too found our waitress rude and I can assure you that wanting a pleasant meal our behaviour was more than satisfactory.
Unless you want to feel very uncomfortable indeed I'd suggest avoiding this restaurant during peak times when the staff seem overwhelmed and you can barely move.
The food is the average overpriced fare that you would expect from most central London restaurants.
Sit upstairs if you can. It's fairly dark and 'cosy' downstairs.
I agree. I have been to Le Garrick many many times and plan to celebrate my birthday there in a few days time. The service has always been extremely good and the food has also been excellent. I have had the set menu each time and was allowed substitutions. The only reason I can think for the poor experience of the first reviewer is that maybe his behaviour was insulting the waitress and she did all she could to MAKE him leave.
I went to Le Garrick last night and I was served quickly, the food arrived quickly and was delicious. The waitress was very attentive. In addition she didn't rush us to leave and we asked for the bill rather than having it forced on us in attempt to get us to hurry up.
The set menu was a little limited (soup or pate followed by steak and frites or moules and frites) but good value at £9.50 plus drinks.
I can assure readers that the review in question is extremely accurate, and to this day I can only wonder what the waitress thought we'd done to deserve being treated with such contempt (I was this reviewer's dining partner! ) And believe me, it's not like we're a pair of naive tourists who didn't know what to expect - we eat out in London week in, week out, and I've never come close to being treated like that.
Hopefully it was just an off-day, but it's hard to see why 12 people have agreed with my girlfriend's review if that's the case.
Sorry - 13.
When I go to a restaurant I don't expect as a matter of course to have to attract the attention of a waitress who is well aware that I am there. Nor do I expect to have to ask for a manager just to get served. I notice that 12 people agree with me too!
Whilst you seem to suggest that I have made this up (for what purpose I can't imagine) I would suggest that you either own or work for Le Garrick... hmmmmmmmm maybe you're that waitress ;)
