Phoned The Police

Six of us went to the Spice Cube 03-06-2011...

Brought us our meals which would not have fed a squirrel as the portions were tiny also the nan breads are the size of a poppadom, we all asked to speak to the owner as to the size of the portions. This man was very rude and said if we did not pay he would phone the police, so he phoned the police, (as if they are not busy enough).

The police came in said we did not need to pay, but to pay for the drinks we had.

Judging by previous reviews this was not a one off. A shame because it's a really nice setting, but the place is obviously run by amateurs and the very rude Owner should be ashamed of what he is sending out of his kitchen.

Steer well clear!

I Love Indian Food And Have Always Wanted To Try T

I love indian food and have always wanted to try this restaurant out and I finally did. I have to say that the food was delicious and full of great flavours and that the restaurant is beautifully decorated and that the service was very prompt. HOWEVER, I found the customer service to be rude and disinterested and didn't even get the impression the waiter believed in what he was selling me! Also I found that the restaurant really lets itself down in value for money. Portion sizes are economical to say the very least and you'd expect a lot better when paying on average 8-10 pounds for a main dish that doesn't even come with rice/naan etc (another 3 quid).

so overall, great quality food - shame about everything else!

After Reading Online Reviews And Awards That This

After reading online reviews and awards that this restaurant has won, I decided to go there today and ended being very dissapointed, angry and left hungry. The service was absolutely poor, the waiters had no clue and were rude, the food was overpriced and rubbish. NEVER GO HERE!!!!!!

Really Good Restaurant, Definately The Best Indian

Really good restaurant, definately the best indian in Newcastle.

I regularly go for the paneer makani and it tastes gorgeous. A great infusion of flavours. Would also recommend the tandoori prawns and the cheese and chilli bread!!

The restaurant is amazing inside and I love the canvas prints of images from around India.

Love it!!!

This Is By Far The Bes Indian Food I Have Ever Tas

This is by far the bes Indian food I have ever tasted, qualiy worth ever penny. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and the selection of wines is delicious. What makes this place really special is that it is no ordinary curry. Would definately recommend this to everyone! An out of this world experience!

So Different From Your Average Local Curry House.

So different from your average local curry house. The Spice Cube have invested in modern decor creating a vibrant, lively atmosphere. The menu is different varied but the old favorites are there if you look. If you fancy an Indian meal with a difference, this is the place!

We Ordered From The Specials Menu And The Meal Cam

We ordered from the specials menu and the meal came to over £70 for two, the food simply came nowhere near to justifying the cost. The prawn starter was nice but it was all downhill from there I'm afraid, the main meals arrived with 2 naan breads (barely warm), now I don't think I'm being unreasonable to expect a garlic naan to taste of garlic but ours just didn't. The chicken curry had 4 pieces of chicken, (yes I counted them) but when I paid £14 I think I should expect a bit more then that. (I should mention that the curry was probably the blandest I've ever tasted too)

Time for something positive - the rice was nice (although you can't really go wrong with rice can you?).

The desserts are clearly an afterthought and appeared to have just been bought in from the nearest supermarket (which is a bit much at the best part of £5 each).

The service was average, we weren't asked if we would like coffee or dessert when our empty plates were taken away, how long would we have been left sitting had we not asked??

The restaurant itself is quite cramped, we were seated next to the huge staircase which dominates the downstairs, unfortunatley this was also directly in line from the kitchen to the rest of the room so we had waiters constantly walking within a foot of our table, ducking under the stairs and leaning over our table - not good on a romantic valentines meal!

All in all this place just struck me as a prime example of style over substance, the food was not terrible but the portions were just ridiculous for the price. If you want good quality Indian food at half the price I would recommend any of the other Indian places in the city (try Latifs or The Raj).

I Have Been To There A Couple Of Times Now, And I

I have been to there a couple of times now, and I have always found it very pleasant. The food is invariably tasty and well cooked, and the staff are friendly. It is also a predominantly non-smoking restaurant as well, which is good.

The Spice Cube is not my favourite Indian in Newcastle, as I tend to go for the blow-your-mouth-off type of curry, served by the likes of Latifs', but if I were looking to impress a new girlfriend, then somewhere like this would be ideal!
