This Is Somewhat A Hasbeen Restaurant, Poor Servic
This is somewhat a hasbeen restaurant, poor service and staff who think too highly of themselves. The food used to be great despite the lack of decent service, now that it's been overhauled even the food isn't up to scratch.
Over priced, awful service and an air or arrogance lingers in this place.

I Was In Edinburgh Last Weekend Visiting Friends
I was in edinburgh last weekend visiting friends when we dined at the apartment and had an absolutely fantastic meal.we sat in the main area of the restaurant, at a lovely table in the window with big comfortable chairs and cushions.our waitress was extremely helpful, friendly and polite, without being over the top.although the restaurant was very busy, she managed to attended to our table in a relaxed chatty manner, that only added to the enjoyment of the night. in response to an earlier review,i found the explaining of the menu very helpful. she enquired whether or not we had eaten there before, then went on to explain that on the menu there are no starters as such, but a number or dishes that can be shared between your group to begin with.this is not neccesarily clear on the menu, so i dont believe the staff are trying to treat the customers like 'dummies',but rather helping you order what will most definitely be a lovely meal!
i would not hesitate in recommending this restaurant to any friends visiting the area, and will most definitely be back in the future.

The Apartment - Do Not Eat Here! We Were Visiting
The Apartment - DO NOT EAT HERE! We were visiting from London at the weekend, and are from Edinburgh. My partner's parents were down for the weekend, and we thought we'd eat at the Apartment.
When we arrived, we found that my in-laws, presumably because they have white hair, had been put at a small table in the dungeon-like gloom of the back room. There was one other table there, also with over-fifties sitting at it. It was incredibly, unpleasantly dark.
The service is so bad. I don't know where to start. The staff, including the one who seems to be the manager (but it's hard to tell because they're all dressed as if they're on the sofa at home), act as though you're in their house, and it's an amazing house, and you're lucky to be there. Put simply, they are rude and have deluded ideas about their 'coolness'.
I wouldn't mind, but the Apartment is not cool - it's a dated, mediocre restaurant in a provincial location popular only with students and tourists, both of whom are famously easy to gull.
The food is poorly designed. I ate mussels - they were almost cold, and absurdly over-seasoned - drenched in cream, garlic, bacon, mounds of onions. Perhaps this was to hide the fact that they were off? My body has been doing terrible things since eating them.
The staff are truly awful - being put at the back, we were close to where the waitresses stood gossiping and ignoring everyone. Twice I had to approach them to ask for drinks, and twice I was looked at as if I was out of my depth. Funny, really, considering how little I think of people like them. Oh, and before I forget, one of them was, in view of the room, PICKING HER NOSE.
So there we are, people - poor food, served with bad grace by provincial types who have been led to believe that they're performing some kind of public service while cooling-up the world. I'd say that it makes me feel sick, but I already feel so sick from the mussels that I can't tell.
Avoid at all costs. Boycott these fools!

After A Good Dinner Two Days Earlier At The Outsid
After a good dinner two days earlier at The Outsider (The Apartment's sister restaurant), we expected a good experience here. What a disappointment. Although my wife said her (vegetarian) meal was alright, my main course, 'swordfish steak in a Thai broth,' was the worst restaurant meal I've had in many, many years. First, the steak was about 1/4 inch thick. I feel that's not a steak; at best it's a cutlet. Second, it was poached, which I think ruined the swordfish. Third, there appeared to be nothing 'Thai' about the broth. I'd like to describe the taste, but that would require it to actually have some. Sure, it had a variety of ingredients, but the flavour had been removed from all of them. Fourth, although I ate very little of my meal, the server whisked the plate away without noticing or asking whether I was dissatisfied. If you must patronize this restaurant, I would advise to observe the follow precautions: (1) book ahead and insist on a separate table with adequate space, (2) ask for an experienced server, and (3) don't order any course for which you have not received an express recommendation from someone you trust.

OK food. Nice decor. Central location. Very dim lighting, so take a torch. Insulting getting the menu explained to you by the waiters! Some of us have been to The Apartment restaurant before, and we're not dummies.

The Apartment Is My Favourite Restaurant By Far In
The Apartment is my favourite restaurant by far in Edinburgh (along side with its sister restaurant The Outsider) which I often visit because of its great food and exceptional value for money. The staff is very well presented and extremely polite. The owner really does aim to do more than just please the customer. I highly recommend it.
