We Booked A Table At The Blue Fish For 15 Several

We booked a table at The Blue Fish for 15 several weeks in advance for a 40th birthday. People came from as far as The Lake District for the meal and the place was shut when we got there. We were told by a cleaner that the place was shut and the manager was supposed to have called and let people know. I never received a call.

We Had A Great Night Out. The Decor Was Great And

We had a great night out. The decor was great and the overall atmosphere was just amazing. I along with several members of my family attended and we could not fault a thing.

The food was simply splendid and our every need was attended to by the excellent staff there.

After Eating For The First Time In The Blue Fish R

After eating for the first time in the Blue Fish restaurant, I cannot speak lowly enough of the quality of this restaurant. Where to begin?

1) The decor was extremely Ikea'esque with a floor that sloped in various directions (surprising on one of the flattest streets in Exeter).

2) The menu - we were given a small list of items (6 starters, 6 mains and 4 sides) cheaply printed on a piece of A4 paper. We assumed that such a limited list were the daily "specials", however no, this was all that was on offer. After enquiring further, we were told that this was due to the restaurant being a chef down and so the menu had been reduced.

3) The food - Hugely "hit and miss" - our party ordered a variety of dishes for each course. Some were good (the duck wrap, the chocolate torte), some were bad (the potted crab, the cheesecake) and some were plain ugly (the fillet steak, the tagliatelle). One thing was consistent, the plates were all cold ensuring that each dish was lukewarm within a few minutes of being served (its not hard to warm a plate is it?)

4) The cost - Im not sure why this restaurant is charging these prices for what it serves. I suspect the tagliatelle was last seen in the ready meal aisle of Tesco's and the fillet steak could have been cooked better by an amateur on a bad day. For a couple of pounds more, we could have eaten quality at Michael Cain's. For a few pounds less, we could have eaten better at McDonalds.

5) The service - the only positive point. The waiting staff were friendly, if only they could have overcome their embarrassment at being there. We saw someone else around, could have been the manager. He was busy putting up pictures in the window - do it before you open, not when customers are eating!

In summary, this restaurant is terrible! The website is "under repair", a chef is missing, the menu has been reduced, only 4 or 5 tables booked on a popular evening and the credit card facility has stopped working - all signs point to closure! I would ask my wife for a second opinion, however she has not yet emerged from the bathroom, 24 hours after eating the potted crab!!!
