Curry Corner, Cheltenham

Used to eat here regularly before the big bang, when they went upmarket and stopped catering for the ordinary man. It was always good, and reasonably priced, but not now!

Tried it with a few friends for a special occasion, and whilst I knew it had gone expensive, I hadnt realized how expensive, and how the portion sizes had reduced in the same proportion. Two "scoops" of Khulfi (about 1" in diameter, lost on a huge plate) for £7.50? Try this. A vegetarian platter to start, £14.95, consisting of one small onion bhaji, one spoonful of Bombay potato and 2 small samosas. Nothing really below £20 for mains, all very small helpings with very little meat, except for the tandoori chicken which was cheaper, but consisted of 2 wings and precious little else. Speciality nans (admittedly nice, but small) £4.95. And to rub salt in the wounds, a compulsory 12.5% service charge.

Sorry, I wont be going again, and I certainly wont be recommending it to my friends. Its just not right for a back street in Cheltenham, and should be in central London to justify itself. I really wanted to be blown away.......

Our party decided to eat at the Curry Corner on Sunday evening as a party of five, for two birthdays, so although I knew that the restaurant was expensive I was not worried as the occasion was a treat.

We booked a table as I had heard that there could be trouble getting in, however, as we dined at 6pm we dined alone and there were still no other customers by the time we left.

All five of us enjoyed our meals and two of us who rarely manage to finish an entire restaurant meal both ate full portions. The choice of dishes on the menu is a lot smaller than many Indian restaurants, however, we did all find something that we like the look of.

The service was attentive, but to be fair, as the only diners you would expect this anywhere. There were some nice touches at the end of service, which I will not divulge, as it's nice to be surprised.

Now to price: None of us ordered a starter, so we ordered ten poppadums and we all had a main course with either rice or a naan, none of us had a dessert. We had two small bottles of Kingfisher ( so the review which I read which said there are only massive beers available was plainly inacurrate)and the rest of us drank water. The bill (including 12.5% service charge!) came to over £122. At just shy of £25 each for two poppadums, a main course and a drink I do find this hellishly expensive, so although I did enjoy the experience, it was a treat, and I won't be going back any time soon. I would recommend that people try the restaurant to make their own mind up, but safe in the knowledge of the price structure.

Well below average with bland over expensive food. My girlfriend & I both left feeling sick. They add a 12.5% service charge automatically. Perhaps it used to be good but it sure isnt anymore. The popadoms & dips are the same as you'd expect at any Indian Restaurant. I started with crab sambrosas which looked great & were presented well however there was hardly any crab meat inside & I wasnt able to taste it (pointless). For main I had a rabbit massala with olive & tomato. The rabbit meat was too tough & the curry sauce was bland, gluinous & lacking in any interesting flavours also presentation was poor. I only ate a small amount before I felt a little sick. I was put in a very awkward situation & had to ask for it to be swapped. I wasnt offered the menu & it was recommended I have 'the chefs trademark king prawn massala'. This curry was almost as bland & lacking spice or any interesting flavours. Also they only serve huge beers which is annoying if you'd prefer to have a half pint or small bottle. My girlfriend & I had to sit in the car for 10mins after as both felt sick. Overpriced below average food. Avoid.

Four of us went to this highly recommended restaurant. We had two bottles of wine four beers starters, main and two deserts it cost £260.

The place is great looking, clean and the atmosphere is great. The service was also excellent and there was always someone to serve and check everything was ok.

The food was disappointing, it was no better than anywhere else in Cheltenham. On the whole the food was good but no better than any other indian type place-the Everest in Cheltenham is much better food but the place is not as nice.

Not sure we would go again.

we were staying for our anniversary in Cheltenham & saw the high buff about this restaurant in the visitors guide (such as Brits best curry house, Gordon ramzy's favorite etc), so we decided to book this for dinner. I expected it to be expensive as a high end restaurant but i was ok as it was for a special occasion, our wedding anniversary

on arrival, it was quite empty for my surprise with just two more guests. we ordered some wine & starters. The starters were just ok (nothing more than any other Indian curry house), but the real rip off is the main course.

none of the main course were priced below 20 pounds. To be honest, i don't mind paying 50 pounds for a main course as long as i can justify myself i.e. by taste or uniqueness of the food, but to our surprise, it was the worst indian food we ever had.

We ordered the chicken curry special & it was nothing more than a gravy and a naan. Honesty, i wouldn't even pay 7 pounds for it, which they charge 23 pounds. my wife ordered a briyani (again 23 pounds) we had only half as its probably the worst briyani we ever had.

i think they are playing a game with people visiting the area by just advertising heavily on hotel guides. My honest recommendation for anyone interested in going to this place is STAY AWAY.. This place just doesn't deserve or stand by what it says.

visited this restuarant last month when i was visiting my parents, lovely food and helpfull staff, would defo go again.

I was taken to Curry Corner for my birthday this year and thought it was an excellent restaurant.

The menu is a really good mixture of what you'd expect in an indian restaurant in the UK and more 'interesting' dishes, many of which I had not seen before.

The food we had was very good - not maybe as amazing as I had hoped - but none the less, it was very good.

I found the service exceptional, all the staff really seemed to care, and the owner popped out and asked each table if they were enjoying their evening.

All in all, it's a very worthy restaurant and Id thoroughly recommend it

I always thought these reviews were done by the owners or friends of the resturant but here is a genuine review. The Curry Corner does excellent food. Very nice interior and superb waitering staff. Felt very welcomed as we entered and missed as we left. Have never done a review before which emphasizes how good this resturant is =)

Curry Corner, Cheltenham - Really pleased to find a good Indian restaurant in Cheltenham. Also, quality decor and a refined atmosphere which I feel is unusual for an Indian restaurant.

We did book a table and still had to wait 55 minutes before we ate - which was disappointing. I found the lighting in basement to be poor and we had difficulty reading the menu.

I think the menu is very much over priced.
