The Trailer For The Weatherman Paints It As More O
The trailer for the Weatherman paints it as more of a laugh out loud comedy rather than the quiet, thoughtful slow burner than it actually is. When we went to see it at the cinema this fact was proved by the large group of kids who had come to watch an easy going comedy and then left half way through when they discovered what it really was.
Nicholas Cage is good as the down trodden weatherman of the title with a less than perfect personal life - having to deal with his ill father (a good performance by Michael Caine), his wayward kids, an ex-wife with a new boyfriend plus a city seemingly obsessed with throwing fast food at him.
As I said above this film is a slow burner and reminds me a little of American Beauty with you being able to hear Cage's inner thoughts and opinions as the film moves along. There are some genuinely funny and touching moments with the odd cringe worthy moment thrown in - one example would be Michael Caine discussing the phenomena that is Camel Toe. Looking back the Weatherman was a 'nice' film - I wouldn't recommend that you go out of your way to see it but if you do have a spare hour and a half on your hands there are plenty worse ways to spend the time.
