I Went To See Walking Tall, Desperately Hoping It
I went to see Walking Tall, desperately hoping it was going to be one of those all-action complete nonsense so unbelievable it is funny sort of films. Let's be honest, neither The Rock or Johnny Knoxville are known for incredible acting skills. But this film was so bad, it created a whole new category of bad. Here's the basic story, I don't think I'll ruin anything you couldn't guess or would particularly care about, but if you're going to see the film and are clinging on to any hope of it being any good, you might want to skip the next paragraph, but I'd urge you not to.
The Rock plays Chris Vaughan, a tough army recruit who has returned to his home town for a bit of a quiet life, only to discover the mill where his dad worked has been closed down and the economy of the town is now based around a casino with loads of strippers. In stereotypical fashion, the casino is run by a money-happy bloke who employs loads of 'bad people' to work for him, beat people up and sell drugs to kids, the shock. They beat up The Rock, he goes back, beats them up, goes to court and bases and wins with surely the worst plea in legal history, then gets elected sheriff and sacks all the police, oh yes The Rock is the law! (Does this really happen in America? what a strange system). Anyway he needs some help to stop the casino boys selling drugs, so he employs convicted felon and best friend Ray (Knoxville.. who's already been in the film quite a lot with out actually doing anything) to be his only deputy. Then the former police get out their machine guns and try and kill The Rock but he shoots them all, obviously they weren't that keen to uphold the law. At the end, The Rock has a fight to the death with the guy who owned the casino, he does pretty well despite suffering a broken leg.
Apparently this unbelievable piece of poo was based on a true story, I think they may have been quite creative myself. It really is one to avoid, no wonder there were only 4 of us in the cinema watching it.
