Little Women, In Its 1995 Version, Is A Brilliant

Little Women, in its 1995 version, is a brilliant retelling of an amazing book. Whereas earlier film versions of this novel did not show the female characters in such a strong, feminist (don't take this one the wrong way, lads!) light, this version has a nearly non-existant male presence with the exception of Laurie and Friedrich, who are nothing more than support cast, encouraging the strong-willed feminine leads.

Don't be mistaken that this is some crazed piece of feminist cinema, however, it's a sweet, heartwarming tale of friendship and family told from the perspective of the second sister, Jo (Winona Ryder), an aspiring writer. It encompasses love and loss and coming of age in 1860's Massachussetts and no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
