Again, I Didn't See Star Wars Episode Ii, Attack O

Again, I didn't see Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones until after seeing "Revenge of the Sith." I explained why in my review of "Phantom Meanace." This movie was stategic in revealing who Anakin Skywalker was and what made him tick. We learned of his background being a slave to Watto and how he met Padme' Amidala on Tatooine in Phantom Meanace, but we also learned of his heartbreak when he lost his mother to the Sandpeople in this episode. It revealed the anger held deep within Anakin's soul when he sought revenge for her death and killed them all. It also told of his overwhelming love for Padme. Hayden Christensen made the character come to life for me. He's a remarkable dramatic actor and as Palpatine said, "I shall follow his career with the greatest interest."

Star Wars Episode Ii, Attack Of The Clones Is The

Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones is the first 'STAR WARS' movie I have ever seen! I watched a review on this movie on TV and heard that it has got more than special effects i.e. 'Extra Special Effects'. 'What are these 'Extra Special Effects'?. I also heard of a 'THX' sound uniquely used in 'Phantom Menace', its predecessor. I was really curious to know what was so special in STAR WARS!

So, I watched this movie in a 70 mm theatre (luckily - not missing out on the SFX ). One of my friends had earlier watched it and said it was 'horribly boring'. By watching the opening style and opening crawl I thought it was a remix of some old 1940's movie (I hated that yellow colour in the STAR WARS title and crawl)! I got afraid that the whole movie would be boring, but, I was wrong!!

How magnificent the 'royal cruiser' of Senator Amidala was! Everything is magnificent from thereon in - the Senate's architecture, the order in the Republic, the ordered starships in Coruscant. Last but not least, the Clone War was breathtaking!

Super Special FX :

One could note that the low-frequency effect is breathtaking when the ship of Jango Fett takes off after his fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi in Kamino. One could also note that in no other space movie would the planets (Geonosis, Coruscant) look that massive and real!

Boba Fett: 'Dad, I think we've been tracked!'

Jango Fett: 'He must have placed a Homing device on our hull. Hang on son we'll move into the 'Asteroid-Field'... and we have a couple of surprises for him'

Boba Fett: laughs proudly!!

R4 droid senses the Seismic charges and beeps.

Obi Wan: 'Seismic charges! Standby'

After this dialogue, two 'seismic charges' explode shattering all the rocks in its range... An excellent Special Effects scene!!

Electronically speaking, the sound is distinctly superior! Sound effects used are DTS, Dolby Surround, SDDS, and above all, THX (is that enough)? (On listening to the movie's sound on STAR WARS MOVIES by processing the TV sound in my small 2.1 channel surround decoder, and amplifying it in an old National Music System, I analysed that on hearing with a good quality headphone, even minute sounds were distinctly audible in TV transmission mono audio. (Oh God, how would a DVD- audio be)? No movie has ever reproduced minute/tiny amplitude sounds so audibly - please note the guitar sound in the background where Anakin kisses Padme for the first time - I love the sound effect there. But one must have a proper sound system to enjoy it (not a big music system/home theatre necessarily)!

I feel this movie is a technical milestone! Superb 'Extra' special effects is the right phrase to describe it!!

Apart from all these, it could be said that it is a good movie. This is the highest budget STAR WARS movie ever made. But the screenplay of this movie is as that of an art movie, and has too many romantic scenes.

My favourite dialogue in this movie is:

"It is obvious that this contest cannot be decided by the knowledge of our force, but by our skills with a light saber".

Also, there is too much importance placed on the romance between Anakin and Amidala in Naboo. Dialogues are as those of old Indian movies.

All in all, this is an excellent movie technically, and a good one on other basis'!

Star Wars Episode Ii, Attack Of The Clones - Love

Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones - Love it or loathe it, a conclusion to The Phantom Menace was inevitable. Is Attack of the Clones an improvement? Yes, it is better than The Phantom Menace the same way The Empire Strikes Back was better than A New Hope. Incidentally, themes from said film are included here (bounty hunters, a chase through an asteroid field, a love story, a cliffhanger ending).

This new trilogy focuses on the story of how Anakin Skwalker (played by the underrated Hayden Christansen) joined the dark side and became Darth Vader. After being shown as an irritating 9 year old in the last film, he is a full-on Jedi who is unafraid to destroy bad guys with a lightsabre. Christansen is no Jake Gyllenhal (Donnie Darko) or Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) but does a good job in making an Anakin the fans would appreciate - an adventurous but troubled young Jedi. With Liam Neeson`s Qui-Gon Jinn unable to return (he was stabbed through the gut by Darth Maul near the end of the last film) Ewan McGregor makes Obi-Wan the wise master we saw Alec Guiness play in the old films who is doomed to make a tragic failure.

The love story is nowhere near as bad as the awful Pearl Harbour (sorry girls, but I hate that film soooooo much), it still proves George Lucas is no Woody Allen when it comes to writing dialogue.

That said, Jango Fett is a nice touch, Yoda gets a fight, Christopher Lee can still play villains and Samuel L. Jackson finally gets medieval on our asses. There`s a reason George gave him a funky purple lightsabre and no-one else.

The ending battle scenes rock too, as George apologises for his mistakes with massive battles, armies of Jedi, huge machines and CGI creatures. Basically he puts the 'war' back in Star Wars.

Overall, Epidsode II is beter than its predecessor and is an entertaining romp. Roll on Episode III.

Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones Was Fantastic - I

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones was fantastic - I enjoyed it from start to finish and what a finish - well the best in Star Wars History so far. The scene with Yoda fighting Count Dooku should blow you away.

Basically the film is set about ten years after the Phantom Menace. Where the Galactic Senate is facing an uprising from separatists lead by the mysterious Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). You lots of fighting sequences with all manner Jedi Knights, which are absolutely fantastic.

Luckily This film is a vast improvement on the Phantom Menace and one which everyone will enjoy. Hayden Christenson plays an excellent role as Anakin, showing both the Light and Dark Side of the troubled character. All performances are good although the love scenes are poor even for Lucas. However as these are few and far between we can forget about them.

Great film for all. Enjoy

What A Lot Of Cobblers Star Wars : Attack Of The C

What a lot of cobblers Star Wars : Attack of The Clones turned out to be. The acting was woeful and the romance scenes were unnecessary.

Two hours of boring rubbish. They should stop making these Star Wars movies whilst they are in front. It is the sign of a boring movie when one constantly looked at one's watch. This movie may keep the Star Wars fans happy but to a person who just wants to be entertained by an intelligent movie, well-acted, and with decent effects this movie is to be avoided.

To each his own.

I look forward to Spiderman entertaining me better. Give Star Wars a miss.

the first to be made on a HDTV camera this movie is technically unmatched and spectacular the clone war and geonosis'asteroid fights were the best sci-fi saga this movie it is. Criticize it to extent you should not - for technically advanced this movie is, i admit although technically superior this movie is poor.

Rabid Aardvark
