Led Zeppelin, Latter Days: The Best Of Led Zeppeli
Led Zeppelin, Latter Days: The Best of Led Zeppelin Vol.2 - This was the first time I had really ever heard any Zeppelin and this one album got me hooked. From the minute the opening track "The Song Remains the Same" starts, you know you are listening to a complete beautiful collection of Zeppelin's late work.
When reviewing a greatest hits album of such an amzing band then you always know the songs will be of the highest quality. Yet, it is other things such as the order, choice of songs and general feel of the album that are so good with this album. While it contains less of Zeppelin's famous tracks, it contains some of their later stuff that would ussually be ignored if just one greatest hits album was produced. There is no Stairway here, no Immigrant Song and no Whole Lotta Love, yet what we do have are songs such as Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand and No Quarter. These songs are undoubtedly more mature, clever songs than Zeppelin's early hits and have made this album far better than Early Days. This shows the time in which Zepplin had moved away from their blues roots to produce real rock and a sound which would go on to produce Heavy Metal.
While many would prefer an album with the incredible riffs of Communication Breadown and the incredible finale of Stairway to Heaven, this features some of Zeppelin's greates hits and is certainly not one to be missed for any Zeppelin fan.
