In Flames, Soundtrack To Your Escape - This Album
In Flames, Soundtrack To Your Escape - This album kicks a**!!
Kerrang! said "every track on here is heavier than a steel brick, yet still has a melodic streak a mile wide" in issue 999.
I agree a bit. It's a great album. However, from track 8 onwards to track 10 the pace increases and it gets repetitive. This makes the music seem a little repetitive at times. Some of you may like this but I don't. Also, I think that Anders shouts a little bit too much... he's going mental during tracks 8-10 ;-).
Track 11 does what the ending to a sci-fi movie does! There seems to be a massive shift from tracks 8-10!!! The melody reaches up to the dark sky and blows open a whole in the clouds for you to get outta here! This track links well with The Quiet Place, especially if you've seen the video to The Quiet Place.
I'm not too sure what Bottled is doing as the last track. I think In Flames deliberately put it at the end to leave the big shift before Dial 595-Escape. It's still a good track... maybe they left it for the end as an epilogue or something.
Here's a roundup of the songs in the album:
F(r)iend - I like the first bit to that intro, good riff, Anders spazzes out far too much in this... which is why the vocals in this track aren't as good as the other tracks.
The Quiet Place - One of the best tracks on this album since the album starts off as a classical In Flames album and there's this changing sense of dimension as you fall into The Quiet Place!
Dead Alone - Great lead into the track. Great riffs and "underground sewage noises" as with all the tracks on this album. These noises turn up most at 3 mins into the track and the track ends. Great.
Touch of Red - Only 50 secs into the track and the melodic chorus shines through. Backing vocals work well in this as well as the drum beats. At two minutes and 50 secs into the track the music stops and bass guitar solos are played without drums. I don't know why they're so long as you get impatient waiting for the next track.
Like You Better Dead - Okay lead into the track. Vocals are a bit of a downer in this track. It's OK but a bit boring.
My Sweet Shadow - Good start with great vocals. There's this bit before the chorus where Anders just spazzes out madly and you just hear a big blur like a broken radio. It's quite humorous if you try to say it yourself! Interesting vibes on the keyboards... they go well with the track. Good.
Evil In A Closet - A softer track than the rest of this album... but it's quality! If you're some sort of extreme mental guy then, well, sorry to disappoint you you'll have to make do with the chorus.
In Search For I - Riffs start off the track coupled with Anders' spazzment 20 secs into it. On the whole this track seems rushed. This is where the pace starts to increase, as well as the repetitiveness in musicianship. Poor.
Borders And Shading - Interesting vocals. Chanting in the chorus. It's owkay I guess...
Superhero Of The Computer Rage - The start sounds like it's a part from the previous few tracks. I like the riff in the chorus. It's average again. It's at this point when you think In Flames are losing it...and then it comes............
Dial 595-Escape - From when you first listen to it, this has one of the best choruses in this album without doubt! Listen to that chorus again and again It's like it's the end of the world (aka The Quiet Place) and you have about five hundred and ninety five seconds to escape into the real world!!! Great.
Bottled - You've made it to the real world just about, you seem convinced that The Quiet Place is gone and that you're safe, but something's wrong, something isn't right.
DIGIPACK BONUS TRACK
Discover Me Like Emptiness - Leads on well from Bottled. Soft but still heavy if you get me. It's as if The Quiet Place has found you again instead of you finding it. Good new experimental chorus which works well. A good track overall.
Hooray for In Flames!!!!!!!!!!
