I Was Not A Fan Of Fender Telecasters And Had No I
I was not a fan of Fender Telecasters and had no intention of buying one when I picked up my Highway One. I was in the guitar shoppe jerking around with some Stratocasters and after playing everyone in the store I picked up the Telecaster and plugged it in. We'll that was it, started playing some RHCP stuff and Zeppelin and promptly unplugged it and brought it up to counter and bought it on the spot. Ridiculous feel, it's like an baseball mitt that has been well broken in, smooth playing guitar and the tone is so sweet. I will never let this guitar go, ever...I now understand why it has been around for so long and so many artists have used it over the years. A must for any guitarists collection.

This Is A Wonderful Instrument With Great Tone. Al
This is a wonderful instrument with great tone. All three pickup positions offer rich, harmonic filled tones. The guitar twangs like a tele with clean amp settings and drives the high gain amp settings to a nice saturated and compressed tone.
The static clicks and pops heard when rubbing a finger across the pickguard is something I've experienced with both my tele's and several other guitars. The static noise tends to be louder with the pickup selector toggle set to the neck and neck/bridge settings compared to the bridge only setting.
There is a simple fix requiring a strip of aluminum foil about 2 inches by 5 inches. Loosen the pickguard and control plate. Slide the foil under the pickguard and position it so the control plate screw nearest to the pickguard passes through the tail of the foil strip. Tighten down the pickguard and control plate. No more static pops and clicks. Works like a charm.

I Use Marshall And B-52 All Tube Amps. I Use A Lo
I use Marshall and B-52 all tube amps. I use a lot of gain and sometimes a wah pedal. The single coils get noisy quite easily, and you can get really dirty grungy sounds with the right amp and settings. I think it is a very versatile guitar. Mine is losing lacquer fast, but I like it looking shabby because I am a shabby player in a shabby band. It is a real telecaster - made in the US (although why that should mean anything, I don't know - the fender factories probably employ mexicans in the US too! Nothing wrong with that); there is something romantic and historic about a real telecaster. A simple design you can hit really hard and it gives it right back.

I've Have A Large Collection Of Guitars, And I Lov
I've have a large collection of guitars, and I love to do compare them and share my thoughts.
The Fender Highway One Telecaster is a good value and great replica of the original Telecaster's. Like the originals they have a wonderful neck, are easy to play, and have great action and access to the high frets. Like the originals they have a thin sound, which is a little dirty and raw. Some like that sound (Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen etc.), and some don't.
I classify this guitar as a speciality guitar only for certain types of material. It is not an all round versatile axe, and it is only really good for the Stones type blues rock, and some country rock styles. However, if you are looking for this type of sound and don't want to spend the money on the higher priced American made models, then this is very good value.
It is available in an array of colors with a nice vintage fret board. The single coil pick ups are where I get stuck. I personally feel that the double coil is needed as a bridge pick up. It would add warmth and some power, but for the money this is a really good buy!
Smart move Joe , I never understood why musicians get stuck on a particular brand of instrument , variety is the spice of life, Fender , Rickenbacker , Gibson ...etc all have different sounds good points and bad points . I was a studio musician for many years and had to have all different types of guitars for the various things that were thrown at me . It was a good exercise and it taught me to appreciate a variety of music . .......... This HW1 is a good value especially if you have a lot guitars and your looking to expand. Have fun !!
Some weeks ago I had the opportunity to test a friend's highway one Telecaster and he tested my Epiphone Standard in black and my Gold top. I must say I was impressed of the Tele.
Not exactly my first choice of guitar-type, because till then I preferred the Les Pauls and Epiphone/Gibson thing, but a highway one Telecaster could get a part of my collection.
