The Fender Super Champ Xd Is A Tough Amp To Review
The Fender Super Champ XD is a tough amp to review as it has so many sounds and variables because of the effects board. I will say the standard tube sound is awesome, but the effects are rubbish. If you're thinking of getting this amp for the rock/punk/metal amp models, think again. Nearly all of them sound horrible on both my guitars (Epiphone SG Custom Prophecy and Yamaha Pacifica 112). The effects really don't do the valves justice and make it electronic-sounding and very flat. It's impossible to get a good-sounding heavy distortion or overdrive from this. Yeah you can get lots of overdrive but it'll sound no better than any cheap amp with a cheap electric effects board. However, I haven't tried the amp with a good distortion pedal, just my Boss OD2 but even that sounds thin and weak. If you're after a really sweet "Fender-sounding" clean amp for blues or jazz or whatever then this could be the one, and the reverb and vibrato effects are pretty decent although there are no adjustments, just effect-level. I will say the amp looks amazing though, and even if it doesn't always sound great, it looks the part, and if you play around with the many settings you will probably find a few tones you like.
