This Small 1/4' Plunge Router Is More Suited For D

This small 1/4' plunge router is more suited for detailing and small work rather than rebating / mouldings and jointing. Many more passes are required to achieve the same results as a normal 1/2" router and would increase the likelihood of fatigue and subsequent mistakes. So... I tend to use this router where my (bread & butter) 1/2" router would be too big or heavy for the work I'm trying to achieve. I find it perfect for putting 3mm radii chamfers on square section timber before begining the finishing work. It just sort of 'zips about', almost by itself, whispering off light clipings whereas the 1/2" is anything but.One of the features I like about this router is the twist handle plunge lock and the fact that it isn't spring assisted; dropping the tool into any depth is a breeze, as well as lifting out from the cut. The fine adjuster is lovely and allows amazing precision with ease. The electronic, full wave, variable motor keeps the cut speed constant and I have, as yet, to witness any burn or chatter. The router is so light, as is the work that it does, that I sometimes hold it with my hands resting on the base and the work piece (not recommended), lowering the tool's centre of gravity, giving me excellent control on the work face. In fact: I wish Dewalt would make the router base more comfortable to hold as my usage of the handles & base is about 50/50. It sometimes feels too light to be a serious tool, but it obviously is and I'm not complaining about that at all. I always look forward to using it for jobs that require it and would not give it up easily, or happily, as part of my tooling. It finds about 10% of the router jobs that the 1/2" won't pick up, but very aptly; equally contributes to the final finish of the pieces. This is a beautiful little router. Well done Dewalt!
