Endsleigh Garden Centre, Ivybridge

Litter is appalling from main road up to car park and around car park.surely you have staff to keep the place tidy.

Visited the Garden Centre a few weeks ago only to have to take back the cup we were given for tea which had lipstick all over it OK we were asked if we wanted another cup which we did.

Visited again today 08/03/2024 3 people two having Ham Egg and Chips (No Slaw as on the menu- but no substitute) One fish and chips. There was hardly any fish within the ridiculous amount of batter. We complained and was told "well if you had not eaten any of it we could have given you another"!!! VERY POOR How are you to find what little fish is in there if you don't cut through mounds of batter. IIF WE WANTED BATTER AND CHIPS WE WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR IT AND PAID THE APPROPRIATE PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shall not visit Endsleigh again.

We went to this garden centre today (28 August 2022) to buy a couple of reasonably large value items, not wanting to buy them 'sight unseen' online.

The garden centre seemed pretty moribund, with uninterested staff and just not that many visitors, considering the size of the place, wandering around as if bored. Obviously it was once a thriving place as there's a large and varied stock - but it seems to have gone downhill in recent times.

We asked for the first large item we wanted, after having hunted for some time for a member of staff. The staff member we finally found was distracted and had no idea where what we wanted could be found. He tried phoning other members of staff, but didn't get an answer. Finally he took us to where, he said, the item would be if they had it, and then said that obviously it was out of stock as there was nothing there.

We later found the item for ourselves, but there was only one and it was poor quality. In same area (large items) there were two other items on display which were damaged (a wooden bench which had a large split in it and an outdoor storage chest with a malfunctioning hinge).

Every item in the store which we checked (because we were considering buying it) had a price higher than the online price (same brands) from other sellers.

To add insult to injury, when offered a store card which we accepted, one of us (a male, retirement-age, ex-soldier dressed in smart casual wear) was asked if he was "Miss, Mrs, or Mr?".

Never again.

Visited on the weekend and thought it would be nice to get a drink and something to eat in the Cafe. Got 2 cream teas, 2 mocha's a piece of Cafe and a cookie came to over £30!! Ridiculously overpriced. Not only did we have to pay a ridiculous amount for hardly anything but staff in the cafe very rude and stood around talking before even coming to take our order. Made to feel like we weren't welcome there. Won't be visiting again.

I bought a pot of tea for two, £4, yesterday. 2 teabags with plain white labels, but even after mashing the tea could still clearly see the bottom of the pot. I exchanged it at the counter for a pot in which the assistant put 3 teabags from a TWININGS box. There was no improvement, positively no flavour of tea. I emailed TWININGS, they replied by phone this morning, assuring me that all their teabags bear the familiar TWININGS label. So what was I drinking. Sawdust in a teabag? The Gross Profit Margin on tea is over 95%. What muppets are running this company. If they cannot be rusted with a cup of tea, what about their other products?

My husband and I have previously bought a green cheek conure from endsleigh back in 2012 and he was perfect happy and healthy. At the end of last year we went to visit family and thought we would go in again and have a look around.

I went to have a look at the pets and spotted another green cheek conure shoved in a bottom cage with no price. My husband went to enquire as something wasn't right and the more I looked at this conure the heartbroken I got. He had plucked his chest feathers, his posture was awful, his beak was very dry and flakey and he looked very underweight. He just looked sad. I cried in the store.

The staff said he had been there for two years, he had no toys and was being fed budgie food, not appropriate for a small parrot. I didn't want another bird but I could not leave him, I bought him and felt awful about the other birds as they didn't look much better!

He was £152, I know I can get a breeding pair of conures for less than £90 and they would be in perfect condition. We did get a discount tho.

Upon returning home I emailed several times with pictures about his condition with no response. So forget it I thought.

Then weeks later he started to have seizures. Off to the vets we went and £100 later after tests the vet said he was in appalling condition and even she felt awful for him, underweight, bad condition, mentally scared and as he had no toys he hasn't learnt any bird skills and just sits all day in his cage doing nothing. Even though he has plenty of toys he doesn't know what to do with them.

I am utterly disgusted with endsleigh and their treatment if animals. If it was someone who wasn't clued up on birds, they may have gotten away with it, how can you treat a poor animal in such a way, it breaks my heart and is utterly disgraceful.

I have not ever had a reply. The vet said it will take up to 2 years for his condition to get back to normal, and I am so happy that he is finally in a caring home that loves him.

Endsleigh, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

We went to Endsleigh this week and as we entered the store we observed that the same Christmas tree we purchased from Trago Mills for £85 was up for sale at £400 I can understand prices do differ but honestly, £315 more for the same product! now thats just a rip off.

Hugely overpriced. Most the items I knew the price of elsewhere are double the price or more here. Also today's joyful shopping experience - I phoned up this week twice to order pet food and twice told incorrect information. Then when I came in today (the day they said to collect my order) the staff couldn't find the food I ordered, one of which was supposed to be in store the days before, but nothing, they then found out the delivery earlier in the week failed to arrive and today's delivery was late by 5 hours. I stood around as they were on hold to the supplier to find out the item was actually out of stock and wasn't on either truck. and wouldn't be in for over a week. So all the orders I placed were for no purpose. So I have driven 15 miles there, to be told they hadn't my order, they said they could sort me out a discount of the exact same product in a smaller bag, fair enough, but as it turns out I'd still be paying extra for the same product in a small bag. They refused to match the price for the bag I had ordered and been given a run about over. I asked a manager and store manager but after a hour I could not stand it anymore they had me there on false information and were selling me the same product in a smaller bag for more. Goodwill obviously stands for nothing there, I wasn't asking for free goodwill, or extra discount but just what I had been sold in the first place and what I had ordered. I left with nothing and won't return.

Love going to Endsleigh it is very expencive, but christmas is magical there it really gets you in the mood ,staff helpful,the cafe food is really good , its lovely to meet your friends and have a lovely coffee. Look out on leaflets on endsleigh there is bargains on plants and food.

Endsleigh garden centre in Ivybridge is phenominal...There is always something new to see.. their christmas displays are second to none, Endsleigh pulls out all the stops and I spend all year saving money back to spend their at christmas..the resteraunt is lovely and always clean..the staff are lovely and willing to help at all times..I have spent thousands of pounds over the last few years at Endsleigh and have never had to return anything for any reason..I have numerous kitchen products.. gifts.. garden items..clothing..the list goes on and on and I would be inconsolable if Endsleigh ever ceased trading..Well done Endsleigh keep up the very good work ***** Elaine Hill
